Lionel Messi - v7

Anti-everything
Now one is denying that but tell me a big club with one CL in the bag back then was great ?

We played like shit in Europe most of the time call that a big club or not Olympic de Marseille had the same CL wins as us back then ffs

Football has changed a lot since then, even since the 2000's, we will probably have the reach and finances (once sorted by a competent board) to challenge for these things. United with their severe mismanagement still have the finances and support to correct decisions that would potentially destroy other clubs. You are over reacting, we knew this day would come we now need to build for the future and be patient. the election of a new board should hopefully see us correct the way this club is heading.

James Vardy - 23 goals
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 22 goals
Raheem Sterling - 20 goals

James Vardy:

16-17: 13 goals
17-18: 20 goals
18:19: 18 goals
19-20: 23 goals

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang:

17-18: 10 goals
18-19: 22 goals
19-20: 22 goals

Raheem Sterling:

16-17: 7 goals
17-18: 18 goals
18-19: 17 goals
19-20: 20 goals

These are the players that I have on top of my head. That said we also lack players from wingers / creative midfielders.

No chance those 3 will leave their clubs

People seem to forget that Barca were a big CLUB BEFORE we even won acl. We had players like Cruyff, Maradona and Linekar play for us.
Time to rebuild.

True, we were always big club.
But also true, before 90's we had 2 Liga titles in 3 decades. We just won same number of league titles under EV and people were mad at him.
Club has took its brand to another level on last 30 years.
Look, I believe we won't be that bad, but as a club we will take a huge hit in the future.
We are going to look forward more for winning league titles than we had in past decade, CL losses will feel more normal as we won't be a favorite or top 3-5 contender anymore.

He was/is a big reason we are in contention, couldn't agree more. But he should also accept, if we want to move forward, we need to rebuilt and cannot have this kind of squad anymore.
If he cannot handle this and wants to leave. Fine by me, I will always remember him as the biggest player we ever had.

He will be GOAT for Barca when he stays, will be GOAT when he leaves.
There is no denail about that for any Barca fan, but we have to accept he is 33 years old, not 25 and reaching his prime.
Decisions will be different just based on that.

Well yeah, but the way you worded your last post, it seemed that you included Messi with the other players when it comes to blame for the shameful exists from the CL when it isn't even close to the truth. I wholeheartedly agree that we should finally move on but the board in place at this point is the same that wasted over 700m on misfits and nothing players. They are just going to waste the money on Lautaro. Just when you think that we hit rock bottom, watch Bartomeu sink this club even more.

Having big names without wining means shit.

By this measure PSG will be the biggest club in history next decade !!!

I think he genuinely want to leave and also want to take the board down with him.

If he leave next season, there is a chance people from Barto-Rosell camp will win the election again. His action almost guarantee 0% of Barto camp win next year.

His goal may not be wanting Barto to resign but about next election instead?

Nah, you're giving too much credit to Messi. He doesn't think that far away or on that level. He just wants to leave this mess.

Hopefully this shit is expedited asap. We don't need a long drawn out court battle. We need a settled squad so the new manager gets down to work.
If Messi goes to City why not get rid of Busquets too?

ligas are taken for granted in here anyway. it's CL or bust for the forum idiots.

i think messi acted correctly on this one. if the club didn't act and have a plan in place to give him the send off he deserved, he's taken the mater into his own hands. he had a clause in place to leave which he didn't activate as the end of the season was postponed by the corona. and he didn't bail out on us before the CL.
i say we let him leave for free and wish him farewell. it's a decent thing to do at this point.

also, the conspiracy theories that the club was run by him and the amigos are dead in the water right now. narrative changed from "he is finished", "no team would take him" to "he doesn't know english" and "how would city integrate him in the team"

Soccer changed heavily since mid 2000's

Olympique Marseille, Ajax, Rangers, Benfica, Steaua Bukarest where all big clubs till the mid 90's and international football was dominated for years by the Italians.
We didn't play EC1 for years because of the Franco area (between 1955 - 1980, we played the EC1 for 3 times only, of which we lost 1 final against Benfica).
Since the mid 80's the club began to fight against years of government domination, but this took years.
Not until Cruijff took the manager job, we started to create a team, but we became a powerhouse in those years to come.

Name me one club that dominated Europe between 1995 - 2005 for years, as there was not 1 club wo could do that.
Soccer was entertaining, because every big team could be defeated by anyone on any round.

Staying after this would be a huge mistake. He would look like a clown.

Not saying that it's likely that he'll stay, but it's not like Messi hadn't announced big decisions only to revoke them before. See the Argentina situation.

This seems a bit more thought-out then the NT retirement, though. Then again, at this point we are all just talking out of our asses.
