Lionel Messi - v7

People seems to forget that many players like FDJ/Neymar ...etc signed for us because of Messi (otherwise they are freaking blind).

Which means attracting already established talent will be hard as hell let alone keeping the few one we have.

Or you can look from a different perspective.

There will/should be a lot of open spots or at least good/fair competition in many positions to replace Messi, Suarez, Pique or Alba over the next few years. Players could be more willing to come here knowing they'll have a better chance to start than they would have when they've had these (once) great players in front of them.

Also, if Xavi will be our next coach I believe he could still convince a lot of players to join us. And Koeman could also lure some good Dutch players if he stays after this season.

Just sit down with him, talk and agree a resonable fee. Simple as that.

I don't think it's that simple, Barto and board are trying to save themselves here, if Messi is sold, they are finished and they can't leave because of all the financial mess they are in, I think they will be fighting till the end here and refer to his 700M release clause.

nah according to forum expert JamDav, he wouldn't even fit in their team. they are all runners over there, no place for old donkey messi.

messi can shine KDBs boots at most.

Be interesting to see how he fits and they play at top end of EPL and CL and how Pep fits him in.

If win CL and EPL with Messi in functioning system I will stand corrected.

Lets see if Barca are a Europa team without him as likes of you seem to claim.

You can come back and pretend to be a Barca fan at that point if happens and hope Barca lose each week watching from a distance.

This is so wrong. With Puyol, Xavi and Iniesta at least you knew it was their last games you were watching. Messi goes all of a sudden from nowhere.

Would've deserved a final year with endless chants.

i didn't say that. at most i've said that we will not be winning anything without him, the current crop and players already signed(trincao, pedri etc.)

on the other hand you said that city wouldn't even look at him as he doesn't fit in with their current style of play.

I said I dont think Pep would want him on huge fee and salary as would have to change system due to lack of pressing/movement.

If wrong on that and Pep does and makes it work so be it.

Get your City scarf out and enjoy the ride.

What a mess this is.

This crappy season was Messi's last, and the 8-2 his final game for us.

He deserves a proper goodbye

People asking for barto to negotiate & trash talking Messi !!!

Already stated pages ago that one of the many things turning Messi 180 degree is Barto refusing to site & talk with him about the club

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Here Puig is liking a post stating that Barto hides once again 👀 and you're posting this if you have a little shame left pls Barto out <a href="https://t.co/7L3IG7KvK6">pic.twitter.com/7L3IG7KvK6</a></p>— Yash Priyam (@PriyamYash) <a href="https://twitter.com/PriyamYash/status/1298584178481487873?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 26, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

He removed the like btw

Another thing that has not been discussed in this thread is the amount of potential advertising and marketing money that will be lost if he's gone. Without Messi, we are basically a Sevilla/Valencia level team when it comes to attracting sponsors.

Ronaldinho brought massive attention to this club from a ton of sponsors and you could say Messi kind of carried that torch. We are facing an uncertain time in the club where finances and club success don't look so good. Also no really good prospective player to attract sponsors. Griezmann is our most famous player if Messi and the amigos are gone

There is no doubt we will take a hit from the advertising/marketing perspective once Messi is gone (and many of his fans gone with him), but it would be ridiculous to say we will be reduced to the level of Sevilla and Valencia etc. when it comes to attracting sponsors. Messi and his fellow super stars helped further build our brand, yes, but we are one of the most popular brands in world football (if not the most popular already, judging by social media interactions alone from every single social media site except Facebook we are the most popular brand), even after Messi is gone we are still very attractive. Real Madrid didn't lose sponsors simply because Ronaldo left, I expect us to take a small hit but not that much.
