Dont see why this is an issue where need to take sides. There are many nuanced aspects to it and its possible to have a viewpoints that are not extreme one way or the other.
What I think:
- Barto is a f*cking rat and has destroyed this club with Rossell (sorry no nuance there
)
- Messi genuinely wants to leave. This is not a powerplay to get rid of Barto and the Board.
- His reason for leaving is because there is no future sporting project here, and he is 33. Even if Barto resigns nothing changes. It's got NOTHING to do with his amigos being kicked out ffs.
- Yes he is partly complicit in there being no future sporting project / culture of amigos. But that's in the past now and he can only look at what's ahead of him.
- He prefers the 'plastic' Man City because that's where all the Barcelona exiles are. His introverted character is one where he likes to be surrounded by familiarity, so it makes the most sense to go to a place where the environment is one where he can easily fit into.
- No he definitely should not leave on a free, but neither should we ask for 700m. Best would be to come to some sort of reasonable agreement in the 100-200m range.
- There is no point in Barto trying to keep Messi this year. He will leave for free next year, so best to make some money for the club while its possible. Only thing achieved by keeping him this year is that Barto doesnt get the tag of the president who lost Messi.
- I am genuinely excited/curious to see what a Barca without Messi plays like, and to see others taking on more responsibility. I have a feeling that while we may win less, it may be a more cohesive functional team
- It will be so so sad to see him leave without a proper farewell in front of a full Camp Nou.
- And finally, for everyone badmouthing him, just STOP. He has lit up our lives and our club for the last 15 years in a way that no one could have dreamed of, so would be nice to take a step back and express gratitude, and wish him all the happiness in playing football that he deserves.
