Lionel Messi - v7

He's trying to work out a deal for the club he loves. And he can't just go to City if Barcelona is protesting that he has a clause. It will end up going to court. Messi wants to avoid going to court. He has to leave legally.

Work out a deal? Hard to believe if he wants to leave for free.

I think Bartomeu bets on if he keeps Messi for now he'll wait until he'll see who the next president will be and talk to him about his future. If Font is elected he'll bring Xavi and I'm sure Messi would reconsider his decision then. Laporta could also convince him to stay.

He can't bank on that, though. Messi is free to sign a pre-contract with any club in January regardless of that. Besides, we have no money to rebuild.

Nonsense. He would be gone for free if could.

Messi wants to avoid court but not anything to do with a love for club.

Because Bartomeu is trying to block his move, so he can't just leave for free. He wants to end on good terms, so this is the best way to do it. Regardless, Bartomeu stated back in 2019 that if Messi wanted to leave before 20/21 season, he was free to do so. He wouldn't stand in his way. He's going back on his word. He just didn't expect Messi to actually leave, so that's why he's pissed off.

Both parties have a case regarding the contract, but due to COVID.... the contract situation is a bit confusing.

Bartomeu said he could leave in reference to the clause not that Messi could leave at any point he wanted.

Nothing is gone back on word in relation to that.

He has to leave legally. If he were to leave today and go and sign for a new club for free, that club could be in breach. No other club is going to take that chance until it's legally sorted. Barcelona is arguing that he still has a clause, whereas.... Messi's party is arguing that it states until the end of the season, which would mean the end of August.

I mean, he's only there to advise Leo and give him a shoulder to cry on. Don't know what juicy hot news people expect to get from Jorge.

Messi is a goner. At the very least emotionally. If he stays and Koeman uses him it'll be to everyone's detriment, because Leo is not there in his head any more.

Say your goodbyes folks.

Exactly... he has to leave legally and would walk away for free if could and has tried to do.

Nothing to do with love for club he wants to avoid court.

Which player who loves his club is asking for salary so big that club is almost going to financial crisis to pay you that? It's not like he is poor or anything so he needs a lot of money. He already doesn't know what to do with his money. If he would asked for less money, club that he loves soooooo much would be able to bring even better teammates coz they would be able to pay them more.

I dont get what we expect to come out of this meeting.
Jorge Messi will argue his son 100% wants to leave
Barto doesnt even want to entertain the though.

It goes to court:
- messi wins, leaves on a free
- barca wins, he sulks for a year then leaves on a free.

Catch 22, if you have any business sense you work out a deal with city now and avoid court.

City are sitting back waiting to see if can get him for free.

It is not on Barca to start offering deals in which they can sign Messi.

Champagne? Messi leaving is great for Barcelona as a club and a football side. He's not really responsible for the rot, but Barcelona project leaders have made his presence the cornerstone of toxicity.
I predict that Messi leaving will result in a form of identity crisis and a bit of a blowback season like Real have with Ronaldo, but the narrative will see a massive change. Talented dudes like Griezmann or Dembele will no longer look like they're 15 or 30x worse than a 32-year old and will have a fresh start instead of playing catchup.

I've been saying for 2-3 years now that Messi leaving is the best that could have happened for this project. 2 years ago I wrote Busquets and Pique were cancers, most claimed they can be useful, only Valverde was being an inept pussy and couldn't figure out a way to make it work. Same things were claimed for Messi who was a 'net benefit to the team with production' and the project having a title 'figure out a way to play well with Messi as Xaviesta get old' instead of 'play good football no matter who is there'.

This is no celebration for me. Barca will be better off in time. This 20/21 coronaseason doesn't matter a whole lot. You'd probably lose the title on depth to Real because your 2nd fiddle is somewhat less reliable, too many oldies to shift at once and not enough talent to carry a jampacked schedule.
But with Messi gone now, steering towards a better future with different players at the centre could make you much much better in 21/22 as players also look to perform well in winter Qatar WC.

Bartomeu said he could leave in reference to the clause not that Messi could leave at any point he wanted.

Nothing is gone back on word in relation to that.

Not that wording he used. He clearly stated that Messi would be free to do so if he wanted to leave. He just didn't think Messi would do. Regardless of his clause or not, Messi wishes to leave. Bartomeu said he could leave and wouldn't stand in his way. He's only using the 700m release clause because he's put us in the shit.

Haggling over a 9 month contract is pretty pathetic. Instead of wasting time on that, we could be using that time to negotiate a good price. He's 33, 9 months left, and would be playing under an average manager in an average squad for another year..... whilst being unhappy. Besides, Messi can sign a pre-contract in January with any club he wishes to. Bartomeu can't stop that.

But we don't know who's in the right. Barcelona's side is saying he can't leave because he has a contract.... and Messi's side is saying he can leave for free. We won't know who's right until it goes to the court.
