Lionel Messi - v7

I think letting him leave on a free in 9 months is wau worse then getting money now when he wants out anyway.

Clearly... but you are assuming City want to pay for him.

If they do they need to make an offer what they believe to be worth.

Messi is not staying but club should not bend over backwards for him or City when they are trying to find loopholes to get out for free.

you had to ruin the reply by mentioning griezmann and dembele, didn't you?

main problem for barcelona is that it doesn't have a young solid core of players that can be relied upon. board tried over the years to bring in new blood but it failed spectacularly and coaches resorted to the oldies and messi in particular to keep us competitive.

There's nothing ruined here. People need to get over previous perceptions. Everything will be different without Messi, including players who looked meh at best. Messi leaving is a massive event that causes ripples in the club down to individual players' attitudes. Messi gone is a clean slate for everyone who's new or under 27.

When Messi leaves there'll be at least 1 season of trial and error, could become 2 or 3 if presidency issues get in the way of building a football project, but eventually it'll flatten out and new leaders will emerge on the back of whom you'll build.

Messi and Barto going is a must for that to happen. Nothing here to celebrate for RM fans who are very aware of own problems and Perez failure to continue reshaping squad when winning. If Messi leaves now, it is as likely to lead to us becoming complacent day to day after winning this 19/20 Liga as it is to getting better.

City can make an offer without Barca giving them permission to.

They want him for free.

Who wouldn't want Messi for free? City is probably just sitting back seeing if they can work things out.

City will also be willing to pay a fee for Messi. That story about the FFP is a lot of bullshit. They can afford his transfer fee (within reason) and his salary. Besides, the FFP has been relaxed due to COVID.

What a bunch of fucking idiotic opinions. Manutd final never happened. Arsenal never happened. Real never happened. Milan never happened. Or to fit your narrative, that wasnt intense enough, am i right?

All matches from 2008-2013, right?

I said that Messi was a Goat and decisive then.
After that: underwhelming in Europe, mostly.

What are you on about 'who wouldnt want Messi for free?'

You are backing up my argument... City should make an offer.

Or leave Messi to take Barca to court and show how much he loves the club in relation to this transfer.

so what's your theory here? messi intimidates the current players in the squad with his skill or that messi is so good, other players will always look meh when playing alongside him?

also, wouldn't keeping messi for one more season be the same thing basically? we would still have to replace the oldies that are leaving now and griezmann, coutinho or dembele would still need to step up.

You said, "oh, City just want him for free." Any club would love Messi for free.

City can't make an offer if Bartomeu is being stubborn. He's said multiple times that the release clause 700m. Besides, they're probably just sitting back to see if Messi can get a peaceful exit.

That's assuming we'll actually get anything from City now.

Bartomeu doesn't care. He's going to be hated regardless if Messi stays or goes.

He will be and he knows that. But if options are Messi leaves for free now or in 2021 then it's clear what is a better solution from Bartomeu's standpoint. And as I've said he might hope a new president could still convince Messi to stay and possibly retire here.

Now what's better for the club it's another question but if Messi doesn't want to play for Barca anymore then he should leave.

Yes I said City want him for free....saying 'who wouldnt want him for free' is irrelevant to the point.

Yes City can make an offer any time they want and it is not on Barca to initiate it.

City/Messi could not care less about a 'peaceful exit' they just want it to happen and for free at this point.

That's the whole point. Messi clearly wants to leave. He's sent in a transfer request. He's missed 3 days of training. He's also asked his agent to come from the other side of the world to get him out of here. I think it's pretty obvious he wants out.

Even if we were to get a new board, there are no guarantees they'll do a good job. We're years away from being a top club again.

So what happens if Man City submit an offer for Messi and Barcelona accepts?

Messi side have already submitted their fax saying he is no longer a Barcelona player. So how do they come back and negotiate a contract with Man City? That will be an admittance that they are still under contract.

You see that Messi side have truly boxed themselves into a corner that the only option that Jorge Messi can argue is that the clause has been paid and he will leave for free.

Likely scenario is that Messi stays 9 months, with or without playing, and next season moves wherever he wants or re-signs with a new president.

But the smarter move from Messi should have been to announce that this is his last season at Barcelona and that after the 8-2, to apologise to the fans and that he will give everything in his last season to leave with Barcelona as CL winners. Because quite honestly, the final year project of the current board to clear out the seniors and transition with players added who understand Koemans system, and bringing back hard work, is logical.

If that's what they want, they can forget about it. Messi is not going anywhere and Bartomeu will make sure of it. It's going to be very clear after the today's meeting.

I completely refute that. If Ronald is a good coach we currently have the make up of players that can get to the Champions League final 2021 (after we get rid of a couple of players)
