It's actually insane how much the backbone of that 2011 Barca team has won in their lifetime.

Guardiola - 3 CLs, 11 league titles and turned PL into Bundesliga, basically impossible to beat in league format and probably soon CL format
Messi - 4 CLs, WC, Copa America, 10 LL - 8 Ballon D'ORs and 6 European Golden Shoes
Xavi/Iniesta - 4 CL, WC, 2 Euro Cups, 8 LL

And then you have other legends like Alves, Puyol, David Villa, Busquets, Pique, Mascherano thrown in the mix.

Leo Messi: “If I dream for the ninth Ballon d'Or? No, no, I stopped thinking about the Ballon d'Or a while ago, and winning it was never a priority for me, especially now that I have achieved everything in my career.

Legitimately stopped caring about every trophy after bringing that coveted WC to Argentina after 40 years

DonAK

President of FC Barcelona
Lothar Matthaus talking about Messi not deserving to win the BdO as if the idiot didn't win in 1990 himself based on just the World Cup

Wasn't even voted the best player of the tournament.

He is wrong as the WC always takes on the most importance but quite not quite comparable.

Haaland won the treble as top scorer and player of year in his domestic league and top scorer and player of the year in CL.

There was no one who did that when he won the award.

Mathaus at that point was one of the best players in the best league in the world also.

Haaland was incredible, but he wasn't the best player in the World.

He probably was across the last year but the WC counts more and thats way it has always been.

There was no one doing what Haaland did in 1990 though so not quite comparable and Mathaus was a top top player in best league going at that time.

Messi is still a better player right now. And more influential to his team's game.

The only other player that can rival or surpass Messi's current level is Mbappe. And that's because Mbappe is younger/has better phisique.

Messi hasnt been better or more influential than Haaland in last year... outwith the WC.

WC yes but thats it.

There is no chance Messi was better or more influential for PSG than Haaland for City and Inter Miami are irrelevant.

Mbappe is a better level than Messi currently is also.

> used to foam at the mouth about how RM would never win the CL without CR7

> have now resorted to fantasy scenarios where if "CR7 stayed at RM, he would have 2 more CLs and 2 more Ballon D'Ors". So, it was mostly overall RM and not CR7 alone behind the success....what a surprise
To the first point) Dude this makes no sense, even if i would have said something like that, that meant they wont win it next 2-3 years which was true, they needed Vini, Valverde, Rodyrygo to win it again. ''Never'' - ofc they will win it again someday lol :ROFLMAO:

To second point) I said probably and yes it could be true as he would have gotten the Ballon dor in 2018 from Magic Modric even tough Modric would have deserved it more because of his WC run but we know its most of the time not the best player who wins it :Dand i think they could have won another cl earlier than in 2022 as the level of cls last years was pretty low
