Lionel "The Greatest of All Time" Messi V2

So even at age 35 Messi has the best stats in terms of goals plus assists in Europe. This season he has carried a relatively average Argentina side to World Cup glory and will inevitably pick up his 8th ballon d'or. And yet you have Barca fans in this thread crying and panicking over his return. Really bizarre stuff. What project exactly will he disrupt because last time I checked Barca haven't got out of the champions league group stage since he left

we'll waste FdJ's prime to babysit a 36-year-old Messi
He is not some David Silva type anyway. Being a happy labrador, running around the pitch, linking play and occasionally making deep runs is what he does. Unless you think he's a player that you build the team around.

A project that is based on 35y old Lewa, 33y odl Gundogan, 32y old Inigo, 35y old Busi, 33y old Alons and average players like Torres, Raphinha and Kessie. People are delusional, we have no project in place. We have no money and we currently have only few young players with high potential. Our project is called "survive until it gets better". Messi will bring in some money for sure and that is more than necessary considering the fact that we are moving to Montjuic next season. With or without Messi we won't challenge the CL next year so his return won't jeopardize anything. Even with 36y on his back he will provide more in attack than any other player we currently have in our squad. However, our defense will be more exposed for sure.

People didn't get that and still dream of squad building like in the good old days when we were splashing hundreds of millions every window.
A young promising player or two might still arrive
But for the most part we are trying to compete on a budget. Title challenge and getting into the CL KOs is the objective.

Getting the future Ballon D'or and best playmaker în the world in our team?
Getting a 36 year old on massive wages relative to our bill who will absolutely contribute ZERO to our team press, distance covered etc.

We're getting a fucking passenger who will do magic every now and then but walk around 80% of the time.
We're getting a guy who will destabilise this team as much as he strengthens it.
We will be playing with 10 players defensively.

Are we ever going to leave the Messi era behind?

There is no way that Messi signs back with this team. It's going to end in disaster if he does come back here.

Spot on, Messi coming back would be bad for both Messi and Barca. For all his brilliance on the ball right now, we don't have a team that can cover for him like Argentina when he's not on the ball besides 2nd coming hasn't really worked for aging players (they're examples like Henry to Arsenal, Ronaldo to Man Utd

Well.
I think Messi won't stay in Paris next season, and there is a possibility he returns to Barca.
Otherwise, if Messi doesn't play for Barca next season, I hope he goes to Napoli !
It's really the best team for him actually, at this stage of his career.

The italian league fits his age [more than the english premier-league for example].
Napoli has already Osimhen and Kvara, and Messi would be the missing link in their squad. This offensive trio would be so deadly, and they might be a major competitor in all fronts.
Napoli is the same club of Diego Maradona, and they got crazy fans who can give lots of energy, passion and desire for the star-players. It's like the Argentine fans in World-cup; it's a major boost when it comes to the mental aspect !
And with a proper coach like Spaletti, I believe that playing a season with this beautiful side of Napoli would be an interesting option for a near 36 old-y-old Messi. That would be nice to watch, honestly.

Be nice to see, but Osim, Kvara, or both will probably get sold this summer.
