No, compare their careers (ability, especially longevity and trophies...) and I really don't see ZZ in front of Modrić.
ZZ was more elegant and had an aura about him but footballwise Modrić tops him. The only midfielder who can compare with Xavi/Iniesta.
Zidane had a special kind of leadership aura about him. When the team needed him in the toughest moments he delivered the goods. A real big game player. Iniesta was the same, he did not score much in the usual games, but in those moments when the team was in some type of extra stress, he was one of those who rose to the table so to speak.
From midfield players it's rare. Modric not so much. More like Ramos in Madrid had an extra gear in big moments from midfield and defense compartments.
From the players today, I think Vinicius the prick is like that, and Rodri believe it or not. Players who almost always give the extra push and elevate their teams under stressful situations. But as I said, it's more rare to see players that do not play as strikers or wingers to provide clutch moments that define big stakes games.
Others are world class too, but you don't see much elevation from their usual week to week level that is reserved for special occasions. It is the reason I could never see someone like Aguero or Ibrahimovic to be as good as Eto'o was. Eto'o had much more of a sharp edge in big games. Zidane was like that, but for attacking midfielders.
