Hot take: The current 37 year old Messi would have suited better for the 2010 side than 23 year old Messi

That team was young and needed someone in midfield to pull the strings and 37 year old Messi would have done that.

Riquelme was solely needed for that side.
Man, you are deluded, Messi at 37 vs prime Germany and Spain with no coach but a drug addict famous for his lack of wisdom and a team of primadonas.
Probably 0-7. That team needed Scaloni not a 1/2 Messi. The drug addict had the tactic Messi can win it alone.
My few bets in life that I made is betting against Argentina and won me a
Why would he retire If he still enjoys playing football?
He can enjoy playing football for free in a pub team with his amigos who are finished from early 2017. If he competes, even in MLS, he will be judged, as Penaldo is, tarnishing his legacy.
In case he stays healthy he will probably retire after 2026 WC
Well that is his problem, going in a WC without legs and acceleration, no spark is a safe bet to get humiliated and people forgetting your huge 2022 tournament.
And that is stupid.

Also he allegedly promised it's his last. So it's also a issue of morale going against your words. You show you are still the La Masia soft boy that Maradona bombarded daily.

It's logical for him to play Finalissima and another WC and retire after that.
It's not. Logical would have been to retire after Copa, let's say Finnalisima.
Unlogical is for him to buy into his cult and follow Penaldo into a race towards who scores more useless goals and who has the most money.

While playing MLS is ok, getting the team full of useless amigos and that dumb coach is not, and that shows, like in the case of Xavi, that the mental disorder that ruined Barcelona is still there in his mind.
Puting his friends and relationships above sporting interests. It might work for Argentina because of Scaloni and some kids that love him, but in Barcelona and now in Miami it completely failed.

At least Penaldo never did it.

You can argue he was not bad or involved, but when you come there and you bring all those finished players and a losser as a coach you are responsible for making the difference. He was close but the spark is no longer there, his fast reactions and acceleration is gone.

I don't see how it will just reaper again in a WC even if Argentina is 300 times better than those beggars from murica and the necromanced amigos.

Bruh did you watch how they conceded their 3th goal? That's below amateur level.

With Maradona as the coach? No way. He called up players and set up his formation based on his dreams. He was a joke, worst coach ever. Hell, he was not even a coach.

Messi in 2010 was already top playmaker/passer.

Just been watching videos of the Real Madrid 5-0 and some other games.

He's one of the only attackers who can still be the best player on the pitch without scoring or assisting. It's what you see when you watch him - regardless of goals and assists - that makes him so special. The intelligent movement, the positions he picks up, the twisting in tight spaces, the dribbling where the ball is glued to his left foot, the vision to see and the ability to then execute inch perfect passes. I know I have said it before but stats do not do this man justice. There are most definitely people out there who are extremely impressed with his stats but don't even realise he'd still be the best player in the world (when younger) if he had half the productivity.

He's as a footballer what Ana de Armas is to me as an attractive woman or Stanley Kubrick is to me as a film director. Just right up my street and exactly my taste, almost perfection. This guy is the Picasso of football. It has been an absolute pleasure to watch him play and I really miss prime Barca (as good as current Barca are now).

I haven't mentioned anything about Maradona so no idea why you are bringing him up. Also you should read my previous post when the whole topic first came up.

The 2010 squad is young and not that experienced so the team needed the leadership, experience and mentality of 2022 Messi and who would pull the strings from deep areas. He would have filled the role that Riquelme would have filled if he were in the 2010 squad. (Of course not saying at all that they would have beaten Germany in 2010, I still think that Argentina would have lost)

2010 Messi would have been better in 2014 and 2018.

Love Messi but i can't see this Argentina side can defend their tittle in next 2 years.

I mean, no one has since 1962 Brazil (in the last 60 some years almost).

So, no shame in that.

But more concerning is that without their intensity, grit and compactness that they showed from 2020 to 2024....they're gonna get rolled over by Spain etc. The last thing you want is an ugly exit.
