No chance was that a fuck up.

One or both sides did not want to renew it at that point would have been only reason.

One side publicly kept of saying they want to renew and the other side kept silent throughout.. I wonder who did not want the renewal?

Also one of them is known to make stupid decisions and surround himself with stupid people

What Laporta says in public is largely irellevant.

He just says what the masses want to hear until point it becomes a reality.

Could be either side delaying it.

Messi is only making 25 million a year for 2 years at PSG Laporta couldn't manage that? How much are they paying Augero Garcia Depay? That's more than 25 million if they didn't add them we still have Messi. They'd rather have these players than Messi. Laporta is a terrible human being. He might as well be Barto.

laporta made it his top priority to renew him, no? the club knew the details and the rules involved.

at most messi was stupid to not know the rules and get tricked by the club in waiting. but i doubt it they didn't knew.

this was a major deal for club and player, so someone is lying. and by seeing how messi was hastily removed from the club and the reaction of both parties involved, it sure was ugly.

"There is a little bit of lack of knowledge, even for agents and for the supporters. When you try to sign, for example, Alvaro Medrana from Valencia. Let's assume that he rescinds his contract from Valencia, and he earns 2 million euros, and now he doesn't have a team.

You want to sign Medrana, and you agree with him that you will pay him 200,000 euros. But the amount that will go towards your salary cap is 1 million euros. La Liga doesn't believe that he is only earning 200.000 euros and adds 1 million towards your salary cap. And then, evidently when you don't have 1 million euros, you need 1 million in salary cap in order to complete the signing. Even if his salary is only 200.000 euros, the cost to the club is only 200.000 euros per season but La Liga doesn't believe that. So you really need to have 1 million in salary cap.

And if you dont have 1 million in salary cap, you can't sign Medrana.

That's why it is difficult for a team like us can sign top level talent [in the Second Division], because even if you offer them a Second Division salary, the league doesn't believe you and you need to offer them 50% of their previous contract."

I know that it has been a bit redundant and wordy, so let's simplify it:

'When signing a new player, it doesn't matter how low the new salary is, 50% of his old contract will count towards your salary cap"

Nonsense, all of it.

The 50 % rule, as in 50% of the old contract will count towards the salary cap, is a presumption of law to prevent bogus contracts typically coupled with illegal contributions. Bonuses and all other contingent earnings have to be accounted for as well, not just the base salaries, which makes sense; and also 30 % of the salary can be paid in-kind, which has to be accounted for as well.

Also, the presumption is refutable, that however means complete disclosure of all contracts details in prior, which clubs don't like very much for obvious reasons + the problem of contingent earnings always remains. It can be done however.

People may feel free to spin this circus act however they want to feel better, as in Messi couldn't be signed even for free and so on, or shift the blame to the LFP, it's all bull. One way or another, the eventual outcome was either a complete failure by the management or intended.

For Messi there would have been no reason to hide his intention of leaving after last summer. He never made definitive promises during the season. Him wishing to leave would have been no bombshell news, it was always in the cards and fans were prepared and had already forgiven him or even supported his wish.

The side making promises and gaining something from those promises , and in turn, opening themselves up for scrutiny if not following through with those promises, is not Messi.

Messi had not much to fear for from making any alleged exit wish public. Laporta did.

That is assuming, of course, that one or both sides indeed did not want the renewal.

With all due respect, even if they have an agreement in principle, how would he know whether Messi's peoole aren't hearing other offers out?
