I do miss the Messi who can take on the whole team by himself.
Messi 2008-2012 was like a one man team.
Messi 2008-2012 was like a one man team.
Longevity is a double edged sword IMO.
Back in the days of the old legends (Cruyff, DiStefano, Maradona, Beckenbauer etc etc.), players had a meteoric rise, a dominant stretch of 5-8 years and a very steep decline. So, when they were playing, we got to see them at their absolute, athletic prime for a LARGER portion of their career.
This has sort of distorted our view of just how good Messi (or CR7, you can make the argument for him too) was at his best, because he's been so productive and statistically dominant even past his athletic prime (08-15). Whenever I go back and watch his videos from 2009, 2011 or 2015, I'm blown away by just how dominant he was. Easily 10 times the level of current Messi, and actually prolly even better
A lot of the lads who come in here and hate on him when he doesn't score in a given game in almost 2022 miss this point.
Poor Kids
Imagine what peak Messi would do with them
Inb4 Laporta spends all our available funds to bring home Messi this summer. 50m investment
Messi hates Laporta why the fuck would he come back
stop swearing

Liked him better than Barto, in case you forgot.
