18/19 Messi was great but if you think he was better than in 10/11 or 14/15 where he was a force of nature athletically (in additional to technically and goalscoring), I don't know what to say.

EV fans trying to turn a universally-acknowledged GOAT tier player who won Ballon D'Ors under 4 different managers and CL under 3 different managers into an "EV achievement"

I think he meant it compared to the Messi of last years, everybody knows that 2011 and 2015 was a class which was beyond genius.

In 2018/19 he was just as decisive as he was in seasons like 2010/11 or 2014/15 (or 2011/12 and 2012/13 which are also 'peak' seasons imo).

But if you also factor in the team around him which was much much worse then in those previous seasons then 2018/19 has a case to be his best season.

For me Messi has 5 seasons or so that are very close, difficult to say which was his best.

Messi has scored 15 open play goals in the CL knockout stage in the last eight seasons. More than half were in his two campaigns with Valverde.

Must be another coincidence of course

12/13 isnt even close to 10/11 , 14/15 , 18/19. I think most people have forgotten how he played there and rate this so high because of the goals. Yes, he scored a lot but his dribbling skills was nowhere near Pep era seasons. In 12/13 Messi's best matches in which he looked like Pep era Messi was against real in 2012 and against milan 4-0.

2012/13 was Messi's peak as a finisher, best scoring rate also and most decisive La Liga campaign.

That matters a lot, so for me one of his best seasons.
Couldn't care less that he dribbled less then in the Pep years or whatever.

The most relevant metric is always decisiveness, impact on games.
