for sure. for years i myself was never persuaded by the 'he's done it in different leagues' argument.

but there is nothing like sober, concrete facts to shake one's prejudices.

CR's achievements in england, spain and italy are absolutely stunning and unprecedented. no player ever has scored at least 100 goals in each of these leagues. think about that. thats bonkers

I used to think likewise, but now I would say Messi in the right setup is better than Ronaldo but looks like CR has the edge in being more adaptable and better in difficult situations.

thats a good point but im not so sure. well, CR is definitely more adaptable, no debating that. but i think both him and messi are system players; i.e. messi was at his best in the pep system and then the msn system while CR was at his best with the modric-kroos-casemiro system

in this current stage of his career it might be true because his legs are completely gone but I doubt peak Messi (not even peak, let's say Messi with a decent acceleration) would have problem to rip apart the ligue 1:lol:

Any version of Messi until 2019 would own any league in the world. He has more goals against the top 6 of EPL from CL alone than CR7 does from his 7 years in EPL combined.

at age 33 CR left madrid to play in italy for 3 years scoring 101 goals, winning the league twice, being top scorer once, and voted best league player i think 2-3 times
at 36 he went back to england where he has more goals than messi does in france

at age 33 messi left barca to play in france (lol) where he has

1 goal

can you imagine just how BAD messi would be, at 36, in endland? christ

Don’t mind barcaog. Argentina beat Colombia recently and it opened up scars of when Argentina beat Colombia on the way to Messi lifting the copa america

nice try but:
1) i have no problem with argentina who boast a much more talented squad than colombia. and thats fine
2) i usually cheer for argentina in copa americas and world cups because colombia isnt likely to win these tournaments

so youre really missing the mark here

it is what it is, for sure with the way he's playing he's giving reason to push this narrative because people couldn't wait to see him outside of Barca and not because his name is Messi they will have mercy for him but if we want to be honest players have different career traiectory, Ronaldo at 18 was pretty much a mister nobody, he barely scored 5 goals in Portugal, Messi was already starter in Barca, he dominated a clasico where both of teams had world class players, on another hand I have no doubt Messi would never matched Ronaldo numbers with that Juve side, I think Ronaldo would be already in double digit if he was playing with PSG this season, that's because they have different playing style, Ronaldo is kinda finished as well but he still can score headers and tap in, Messi can't do that, if he scores now he needs to bang outside of the box. Messi should have left Barca 2-3 years ago.

Nice said Hardy dude. Messi would surely score more goals if he would stop to fall deep which often slows down the gameplay of PSG. The midfield players of Paris aren't worldclass (except Verratti) but imo they and the offense would benefit more if Messi plays near the box.

It's not so much the league he plays in that makes the difference but the team around him that does. Sure, prime Messi in the Barcelona team would destroy teams from any league as he proved. Prime Messi in a team like Manchester City would too.

However, I think there would be a considerable drop off (much more so than for someone like Ronaldo) if Messi was playing for a team like Liverpool, Bayern, or Chelsea that plays a different type of football.
