PSG doesn't have an ideal setup or players for Messi, but he is nowhere near his old self, to accommodate him like that.
He has shown glimpses of running more to press, making some runs to receive here and there and still doesn't get involved as much and he's frustrated at teammates.
Messi of past years and a full gas tank wouldn't have a problem playing the PSG way. But now age has finally caught up.

Its been a long time for Messi that no top coach would accomodate his style of play into their team as too much given up from team to leave on his toes and been that way for years.

At this stage it looks like PSG will need their top players to do it as individuals and ride their luck defensively to do anything in CL.

Even if he wasn't prime Messi, 2019 was the last chance for me. He was still delivering through individual play, direct fk, assists, dribbling. After that collapse at anfield, which I don't blame him not even 1%, he has not been the same player.
I get you change after a certain age and priorities change too. I guess that was the turning point.

He had a good CL in 2019 individually as made difference when had ball but it had been failing in CL and biggest games too often before that as well.

Must have had one maybe two good games v Real in last 5 years or so at Barca.

It worked for Barca to some extent and better with him clearly so worth giving up some of team to him as individual but that in some ways is worse. Got to point gave up trying to play with intensity of other top teams to suit style of Messi and other old players.

We could accommodate him then, but with all the other veterans included, it was a too low intensity for cl and other top teams. If we had dropped some of our other oldies for younger, even if average, players, it would have worked better.
At least, even with that old squad we were still a top 10 team. Now we are just mediocre.
I still have hope for our young midfielders, but it looks a long long way to the top again.

Personally prefer watching this Barca trying to build again than one just knew couldnt hack it outside the low intensity/slow la liga. Even if that previous team with Messi was better and he was best most effective player.

Loved watching Messi as an individual in latter years.. hated watching team as a 'unit' with him and older players not doing basics off the ball that other top teams show.

This is true, I tend to see it this way too lately.
Messi, should have left as I said before, after anfield along with ev.
We might have been in a brighter spot now.
Even so, I like watching our young players run and try, it's refreshing after all the snail pace passing and walking about.
