OG licking his wounds by going the 'they're both shit route'. I give him 24 hours to revert to his usual shit throwing self.

Serious question for Messi fans here:

Do you think Messi and Ronaldo would have been as good without one another?

I always thought they both drove each other on to break barriers of statistics and longevity.

Without that motivation they'd be 75% of what they are. I think they have kept each other going for the last few years and instilled a hunger

i think between 2009-14 or so they really pushed each other to new heights every season.

messi might have been just as good because he is the bigger talent but CR has that competitive mentality that pushed him to better messi i think

in the end we are lucky to have seen both at the same time

Messi's 2018-2019 CL effort was definitely in response to the RM/CR7 CLs.

But his years under Guardiola, he just loved playing football, and he was a level above anybody else (best goalscorer, near best playmaker, easily best dribbler/1 on 1 ability, easily best acceleration on the ball). So I don't think that changes much.

14-15 was his revenge reason for the WC, so I don't think CR7 played a big part in that.

CR7's CL and Ballon D'Or push between 2014 and 2018, though, was definitely influenced by Messi.

agree about the guardiola years being pure joy for messi. i think he achieved that again in 2015 with MSN but certainly post guardiola and in his last years at barca he didnt seem as happy as before, likely a consequence of all the frustrating elimination

They have definitely pushed one another their whole careers more or less.

They had to be relentless just to keep up with one another.

i think we should also give CR a lot of credit for not collapsing mentally after messi won 4 bdors in a row. he really dug in and fought his way back into the conversation at a point when the debate seemed over

Anyone else find it odd that Messi and Ronaldo have never even taken a slight dig towards one another.

Here you have Benzema's ego getting hurt by Giroud in 1 week and calling him a Go Kart and shit out of bitterness.

There seems to be a lot of mutual respect between Messi and Ronaldo. Definition of healthy competition. Never seen any animosity there.

It's always funny to me because their fanboys are always spewing vitriol on each other.

Yeah, also tried to bait him with those comments about joining him in Italy to prove himself in other leagues.

Messi doesn't know much else aside from BBQ with friends and the usual Ibiza vacation.

Nah that Italy comment wasn't a dig at all. It was very friendly.
