You're welcome
Saudi Arabia head coach Herv? Renard: "Sometimes the opponent is not at their best motivation. It's normal. It happened to us when we played a lower level team. Sometimes, people don't understand this... The motivation is not the same when they're playing against Brazil. It's part of football."

Nice level-headed response.

Thought he was ok. Some good passes in the build-up. But yeah, looked nervous and when he's nervous he gets passive, overthinks, forgets his intuition. Looked like he was about to puke before taking that free kick.

Diego Maradona said in 2018 during wc: Lionel Messi is no leader, he goes to toilet 20 times before a game

He wants the wc too much which makes him too nervous and as you said he gets passive when he doesnt feel relaxed. Needs to be more relaxed but easier said than done.

“It’s a situation that this group of players has never been through, it’s been a while since we suffered such a tough blow, we didn’t expect to start like this,” Messi told Argentinian media after the 2-1 defeat in Group C.

But in the second half, “in five minutes of mistakes that we made, we went 2-1 down and then it was really tough and we lost organization and started punting the ball,” he said in comments broadcast by Todo Noticias.

“We knew they were a team who would play if we let them...They did not surprise us, we knew they could do that.”

“Obviously we have to win or win now. It’s up to us to fix what we did wrong and get back to the basics of who we are,” said Messi, whose team had been on a 36-match unbeaten run prior to the shock result at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar.

“We’re OK, obviously hurt by the result, very bitter. But people must trust that this team will not let them down and we are going to go for it in the next two games. We’ve played games of this nature before and we’re going to perform well.

“Now’s the time to be more united than ever, to show how truly strong we are.”

Genuinely dissapointed by the whole ARG team tho. There was just no confidence or excitement. Even when they were ahead it looked like they were dragging themselves through the game.

If Messi is an inspiring leader, it has certainly never been in the hopeful, spiritually buoyant kind of way. More of a passionate sacrificial suffering vibe I get.

Not sure the latter produces the better football.

Argentina should have done better, but Saudi had all the luck on their side. On another day, that half chance that goes through Romero's legs gets blocked.... and that one on the edge of the box gets blocked or deflects wide, or Martinez saves it like he normally would. They only had basically 1 half chance and 1 that was a decent strike on the edge of the box near 2 Argentina players.... they were clinical. On another day, Messi and Martinez time those runs a little better, or the pass is played at the right time... and they score 4 in the first half. Also, on another day, they score those other chances they had.

Argentina obviously has to win their next 2 matches to win the group. They don't want to be put in a situation where they play France again in the next round.

Luck wasn't on their side, surely, but they didn't show up second half. The defending for both goals was really bad and the keeper could have saved one on another day. Against a team like that, they needed urgency but got surprised from the intensity and paid the price for being complacent.
Now they need two wins.

1 win and draw will be enough too?

It's a combination of terrible tactics, players' mentality, players not being fully fit, choosing the wrong players and so on and so on.

The players and Scaloni must get it right the next 2 matches.

Think this should be the lineup next game:

Emi Martinez
Montiel - Otamendi/Romero - Lisandro - Acuna
De Paul - Paredes - Enzo/Mac Allister
Messi
Di Maria - Lautaro

My lineup vs Mexico

-----------Lautaro
Alvarez------Messi---De Paul
--------Enzo----Paredes
Acuna--Lisandro--Ota---Molina
------------Dibu

Bring in the likes of Di Maria, & A. Correa as subs.
