CL is more prestigious but the league is more impressive.

If Leicester were to win the CL it would blow their league win out the water in terms of how impressive and how much recognition they get for it.

If any team were to retain the CL it would be a much bigger and more impressive achievement than back to back domestic leagues.

Not true. Barça's CL run in 2015 was the most impressive campaing I've seen in any tournament. We managed to beat all the league champions. Leagues can be dull, and decided by refs, as this current one.

Precisely.

You think he feels a success at Bayern or has huge regrets about CL?

I dont believe he feels like that even if he says it.

I think both. Lucho has won the treble though. People are speaking about multiple CLs in a very short time frame. Which is extremely rare, and the rarity as well as the randomness of the competition means it can not become the no1 objective of a team. Thus meaning the CL is not the most important target of the season for me.

When you win the League the season is a success automatically. If you win multiple trophies and the league, it's an amazing season. If you win all titles, including the Champions League it's a historical one.

Not the discussion. You just surpassed yourself again, by saying the CL is not THAT important, and now it's changing the subject... League is the 2nd most important, but to win the CL only once, with MSN and money to spend, is an underachievement.

Treble is nice and all, but I'd much rather have 2 CL's in a row. That would be more impressive these days.

The CL is what the biggest clubs are judged on more than anything else across europe.

It is the trophy the likes of City and Atletico want above all else as it is seen as the pinnacle of what can be won in european club football.

The league may well be a better judge for more consistent team in their country across the board but there are hundreds of league winners and only one champion of europe.

What?

I stand by that. I'm not changing anything.

CL is the most prestigious title, but not the most important objective of the season.
La Liga is the no1 objective and the most importat during the season, and that's how it is supposed to be.

2CLs in a row means jack shit if you play only the weaker teams and the rest knock out each other. It gets reduced to two finals with some luck and some games in between against 4th placed teams from other leagues, or champions from much inferior leagues.

CL is a flawed and overrated competition. Sure, it's great, and when you win it those nights are the best, but they are just some moments that account for little time in the season.

If CL disappears, football fans would be sad for a while, but european football and club sides would move on. If La Liga goes away, the players might as well start fishing, painting or doing origami.

CL doesn't even exist on it's own. It's an add-on, an extension that is added on the foundation that is national football leagues from all over Europe.

Champions league is still the pinnacle and most big clubs and their fans see it that way.

Regardless if the league campaign is seen as the main focus - it has to be really.

True, most probably see it that way. I don't. I'm extremely happy when we win it, and sad for some weeks when we are knocked out, but the league still gets me back involved everytime. League is Barca football week in week out. Can't beat that imo.

Domestic double > CL. In terms of people's perception though, the CL trumps everything. But a CL win without a league win will always be somewhat diminished, whereas domestic trophies don't need the CL for validation.

I'm actually ok with one CL in 3 years, even with MSN. 1 CL semifinal in 3 years is a different story though.

You're welcome

You can't really compare Leicester's situation to a top-tier team's like Barca. For Leicester it would be an impressive feat because they would need to beat stronger opponents every round of the way.

That is a different argument though. No one is saying that being knocked out of CL means it is a bad season or league doesnt matter after that.

Just that the CL is the biggest one to win. Regardless if it has more randomness about it or most consistent team not guaranteed to win it.

Leicester City is about the most impressive league win in recent times. To show that it would be outshone by winnning CL is relevant.

CL is flawed? So are the leagues. Especially in spain, with the amount of corruption there is. CL will never dissapear. using bs scenarios now too?

"2 CL's in a row means jack shit", "CL is an add-on" - the gift that keeps on giving :rofl1:

It hasn't been done since the format change, but it'd mean nothing. Lmao, serghei. You keep surprising me. I really thought those bits on xavi were surreal, but you keep finding new ways. kudos, I think.
