It is all about the points, playing bad and winning is the secret that made Barcelona almost invincible under Guardiola. It doesn't matter how good you play if you don't win, just ask Ancelotti.

We had a trainer who was all about the quality of the game, he fucked up completely and eventually he was sacked, that guy was Louis van Gaal.

Are you saying that the Pep Team played badly ? or am I just missing something..

No. I think he meant Pep's Barça won even when they played badly. It wasn't that uncommon. Specially against some parked buses. Time makes us forget some details sometimes, but I still remember that too.
IIRC, it was mostly in away games, but even when playing badly, they would scrape a win.

We are playing differently. We do not have prime Alves, prime Xavi, prime Iniesta. We do not have leader on the pitch as we did in Puyol.
In many ways Lucho has it harder. Constantly having to measure up to pep and the glory days and not having a steady board behind him.

In defense he managed to bring Pique to life (something pep couldn't do) and personally pick us a worthy successor of Valdes in Bravo.

In midfield it's the first time in a decade we are having to deal with life after Xaviesta, our very essence. Lucho managed to make it work with a solid but not world-class player like Rakitic.

In attack he managed (to convince) Messi to play wide (first time in 5 years). And contrary to Cruyff and other people got not 1, but 2 "cracks" to play beautifully alongside Messi.

Barca had become too predictable for top teams to play against.

They pressed high up park and knew even if Barca broke that line of pressing they would have time to get back in two banks of four on edge of their own area.

It came to the point that Barca had to play on the break more or risk stagnating. But there is nothing to say this is a new way of playing ahead of the passing/possession style.

Teams knowing that Barca can break will be more reluctant to play the high pressing game knowing Barca can break...which in turn will make it easier to play successful passing/possession game again.

Teams have to know Barca have the ability to play different ways or it makes the passing game too easy to stop.

2 months ago fans were screaming for Lucho's head and rumors were that he will be sacked in couple of days. Now Sport publishes an article that they want to renew his contract until 2017. But if loses next game fans will scream for his head again:call him mid table coach with no tactical skills, clueless with rotation and debate who will be better Barca coach- Klopp or Mourinho? I doubt that Lucho will ever become fan favorite like Pep was regardless the silverware he wins for the club. He should not accept a new contract from the club.

*3* months ago, and with good reason. Everything was falling apart. The pressure made Bartomeu call elections, and somehow the coach and the team managed to turn things around. If no one had expressed their discontentment, perhaps nothing would have changed. In hindsight, everything is easy to criticize. Pep was also target of a lot of criticism, when he lost his 1st game as the manager.

Are you saying that Lucho was able to turn things around due to fan's discontent about his performance? So building the team takes time had nothing to do with that, but bashing Lucho made him a better coach. Maybe we should ask couple of fans to beat the crap out of Lucho in parking lot: that's guaranteed CL cup.

According to the press, but not in reality.

The fans reactions definitely helped change things, fix the issue with Messi, call elections, and Lucho to stick with one main line-up, up until anoeta, iirc we had 0 line-up repeated ... as much as Lucho likes to arrogantly boast in conference press that nothing has changed and that was always the plan, all players said afterwards that there was a radical change in the team dynamics after Anoeta.

He lost to sociedad after he decided to play Munir and Pedro over Messi and Neymar.....right after real madrid dropped point. I think the meltdown was pretty justified.
