lucho is winning trophies which is really really wonderful and amazing, pep also had but despite of that pep gave us something more , 'constancy' , he changed the players' attitude, to keep winning games, to be more hunger
and the way he developed messi, busi , pique , iniesta and xavi.
i can remember rijkaard's era after we won CL and league and we slowly fell apart and it clearly says being in the top is more difficult than reach the top at once. in my opinion as 'effectiveness' pep had done more than lucho
and that doesn't mean pep > lucho

btw congrats all ! sucha fucking nice record lucho ! keep going.

1) We are more consistant now than we ever were under Pep. We always had trouble breaking down buses. Let's not forget how we made it to the final in 2009. Last year we dominated the knockout rounds.

2) The Barca that Lucho inherited was thought to be a used product, we got demolished by Bayern in 2013 and emasculated by Atletico in 2014. Now, we're chasing a repeat of the treble.

lol that is some interesting metric to use to put pep above lucho as a barca coach. effectiveness and winning are the two metrics all statistics show that lucho outperforms in, and come may, we are likely to be in the position to retain the treble. The one area in which pep did outperform lucho is in playing beautiful football.

I honestly think this side is playing just as beautifully. The 0-4 match at the bernaleo, for instance. Or the recent 7-0 vs Valencia.

lol, people forget too easily. Pep was bashed for playing dull football quite often.

i guess i should have phrased it better, i don't disagree at all that we play beautiful football, when this team is on its day, i can't think of any other team that's better in building up attacks. however, in my opinion, two of the years under pep (latter half of 09, first half of 2010, 2010-11 season) we played aesthetic football virtually day in and day, not so much in terms of possession stats or "control", but in the quality of the passes, the synergy between the team. In the end though, even this of little consequence, as what matters is winning and lucho is definitely better at this, and hopefully will continue to be.

I agree, but Lucho is pragmatic coach and he sees just end result, that is trophies. Why play every game like its your last when we never had harder schedule and are still playing in all 3 competitions as favorites? We are making history, with Enrique at helm. If that means stepping on breaks here and there, while still taking 3 points, then so be it:rockon:

couldnt agree more.

for the fitness fanatic lucho is im pretty sure those games where we play with less effort are part of a bigger plan to keep players fit over the season. last year we seemed a lot less jaded in the final stage of the season than the years before

You're wrong. His Barcelona did play great football, but I found we became boring and predictable at the latter stages of his time here and a lot of the time I was waiting for a moment of magic to actually enjoy something from our team. This side is more unpredictable and therefore more enjoyable to watch in my opinion.

Barca's football was magic in 2010 and 2011, especially the period of late 2010 and early 2011. This year is also brilliant, but obviously the magic is more individualistic.

As for consistency, Pep's team in 2010/11 was the most consistent team I've ever seen. You could expect the same level of play and dominance in every game, and you could start any game against any opponent with the confidence that Barca will win. For the most part, that was true. Their losses were:

1) Freak early season loss to Hercules at Camp Nou
2) Dead rubber loss to Betis in Copa del Rey
3) First leg loss to Arsenal where they completely dominated the home team and should have destroyed them.
4) Copa del Rey final loss to Madrid, arguably the only deserving loss.

Lucho's team in 2015/16 don't garner the same feelings, but they end up winning most of the games anyway. So far, in their 3 losses (Bilbao Super Cup, Celta and Sevilla in the league) they deserved to lose all 3.
