Our squad is so amazing this season, great dept in every position except RB, but this might also have drawbacks if Lucho doesn't properly use or know how to use the depth.

If between the 50-60 minutes, Messi goes off injured and Atletico score, then WHY for the remaining 30 minutes wouldn't we bring on Paco to try and win us the game? It's just so utterly baffling...I mean I couldn't possibly think of a more perfect scenario to utilize a 30m euro striker who we signed as a back-up.

??!!??

I think Lucho didn't sub him on because he was afraid of being a Midfielder short on the field.

But I would've subbed Paco on instead of Arda though.

At some point he needs to try Paco in a 4-4-2. Especially without Messi. Arda is not really a goalscorer.
In today's game, it'd be

Rakitic - Gomes - Iniesta - Neymar
---------Paco------Suarez----------

Great words from Lucho after the match.

"To lose Messi means that football loses,"

"With Messi we are stronger, but we will continue being strong."

He just have to put these into action in the next three weeks.

Lucho needs to integrate our backups with our staring lineup so they don't look like shit. Just a little difference from our starting 11 and we look like shit. Even more imperative after messi injury.

I hope we have a lead after the first half of the season because of a relatively tougher second half where we travel to bernabeau(?) and calderon.

I'll quote from another topic:
(quoted: How we are playing this season, chances are extremely slim that we will win a CL.)
Sorry, but that's just nonsense

Mate, that is just my opinion.
It can turn into an awesome season, or easily into a horror season.

What I don't like:
1. too large squad, Lucho can lose it with too many rotations, he is not an expert in that area
2. MSN, imo, I don't think we'll ever again see the magic from 2014/15. Messi is getting older and more tired each new season, Suarez is good, and Neymar is, well, Neymar. So, I am not convinced into our MSN power anymore.
That doesn't mean that we can't play good from time to time. But overall, I don't think that we will ever again see 2015's MSN's magic.
3. Key midfielders Iniesta and Rakitic are getting older and older
4. new signings, it is hard to tell which players are actually players who will strengthen the team and which are players who will be gone in 1-2 years. Also, it is questionable how much time we will need to gel those 2-3 subs into a team so that we don't see a huge drop in quality when any of 11 starters don't play
5. don't ask me why, but I have a gut feeling that we will have hot and cold season this year because all of this above. Something like September's matches.
On "our" night, we will trash anyone 6:1 or 8:1, but way too often we will drop points in 1:1 and 1:2 matches against (too many) midtable/average teams, just 3 or 7 days later.
More or less, what RM was doing in the past few years, when they were trashing some teams 10:1 and 8:1, and then playing 0:0 on the next matchday.
Don't ask me why. I watched Van Gaal's cycle, Barca's poor 00's cycle, Rijkaard's cycle, Pep's cycle, Lucho's cycle. Each cycle usually had a good/fresh start, some fall in the middle and more or less bad end after 3-4 years.
Pep managed to keep players on the highest level for the longest period, but even his team started to fall in the 4th year.
Other coaches lost the momentum from first 1-2 seasons way earlier.

About my remark about us probably not winning a CL this season, that is just my gut feeling.
It is not related to our footballing skills, we are the best or in top 2-3 in that area with RM and Bayern.
I just have a bad gut feeling about team's chemistry, Lucho's ability to keep the motivation of players high in a 3rd year in a row, our mental strength, our overall motivation (we are team filled with too many players who won all trophies way too many times, Messi, Iniesta, Pique, Busi, Mascherano, to some extent Raki, Suarez, Neymar, Alba).
Also, I hope that I am wrong, but I have a feeling that Lucho's 2014/15 was something like Rijkaard's 2005 and 2006, when the team was growing and growing till one point (winning a CL). Again, I have a feeling that our current squad and the current and upcoming seasons will be like Rijkaard's 2006/07 and 2007/08.

Anyway, let's see.
I hope that I am wrong, but I have a lot of concerns about that mental strength/motivation part (of our team) and how a coach can handle everything.
As the time goes by, coaches usually have more and more problems in the locker room with egos, superstars and motivation of players.
Again, we can trash any team 7:1.
The question is: can we win 10+ matches in a row this season?

Who knows if we can, and yes you are right it could turn into a brilliant season or into a horror season, but you can't say after a few games our chances of winning the CL are very slim, no one knows what will happen, you are acting like we just lost 5 games in a row (and even then we could easily pull ourselves up and go on to win the treble).

This is my gut feeling about team's chemistry.

The same as you have a gut feeling about some person or some girl etc.

In the last 20 years, our CLs wins were:
2006: we were very strong, but we were insanely motivated, it was a climax of years of trying and trying (14 years of waiting)
2009: we were out of this world strong, plus motivated
2011: again, out of this world strong, plus motivated
2015: MSN on it's prime, extremely motivated after a few years of CL failures and after a horror Tata season and horror autumn under a new coach Enrique

So, imo, about CLs, we have won them either when we were out of this world-strong or when we were insanely motivated (or both).
My personal feeling, not only after these 6 matches, but since spring of 2016' is that our motivation is not exactly on top.
Key players are older (Messi, Iniesta, Raki, Busi) and won way too many trophies and new guys played 200 minutes for a new team.
We have a mix of mentally drained players and 22 years old youngsters for whom it is extremely hard to tell whether they will strengthen a team or they will just help to rest starting 11 (and a starting 11 is already mentally drained for some time and maybe not strong enough on a mental level anymore to win a CL, since again, a CL is a different tournament than La liga).

So, not to be all negative, I will change my prediction from:
= we surely won't win a CL
Into:
= we surely won't win a CL this year in 2009's/2011's/2015's style when we were out of this world-strong
= if we'll win it, we will win in RM's style this year (we won't be the best, but we will "steal" the cup in the end in some way)

Further, imo, for us to win a CL (I am not talking about La liga, that is a whole different psychological universe):
1. we will need to go though a 2014/15's horror in autumn/winter and into a phoenix' comeback in spring of 2015 (or spring 2017)
2. or, we will have a horrible La Liga campaign (RM will have 5-10 points advantage in spring), we will lose La Liga by March/April, and then Messi and some guys will go into an angry-terminator mode and we will win a CL in RM's style (being poor in La Liga and winning CL in the end)

Imo, a scenario where we will win La liga by 10 points, in a Goat mode, and where we will trash opponent by opponent in a CL like in 2015, won't happen this year.
We lack motivation as a team currently to win 2 titles in that manner.

I hope that I am wrong, but the team's chemistry/egos/motivation is far from perfect for 7-8 Months already.

We'll see how the season will develop, but this, psychological/motivational part of our team is almost as important as pure footballing skills of our players.

In 2015 we were out of this world when it mattered most. Not since the start. People wanted Lucho fired in January, to the point that his game vs Atletico was more like "lose this and you're in trouble". The atmosphere in the locker room wasn't exactly beaming with confidence either, after we got beaten by f..ing Moyes in San Sebastian.

CL is mostly about getting easy draws or being clutch right in the important moments. We didn't have neither on our side last year, let's hope this year our luck changes. We'll know in march-april if we are sharp enough to go for the treble again. Maybe UEFA gives us an easier time this year with the draws, I'm sick and tired of playing the strongest opponents every time.

Why should we chase another 10+ consecutive wins streak as an end in itself? We had a phenomenal win-streak last year and it ended terribly: getting knocked out of the CL and coming too close to losing the league. I'd rather we start a bit slow only to pick up steam come the new year, when results will really begin to matter.

Someone please tell him to stop experimenting in away games. This is really happening too much.
