The big Q is why is he doing that? What he wants to prove? Thatche is an idiot or he is revenging somebody by shitting up?
I think that he just believes, for example, that 433 is a godlike formation and that it failed in the last 12 Months only because of a bad luck, bad form or whatever.
And that eventually, it will be a goat formation again.
So, even though 343 is good currently, he probably have more faith in old 433 formation and this is why he is returning to it often.
About Gomes, the same.
Gomes is probably very good player on trainings and he is probably showing some good stuff and this is why Lucho trusts him.
About why is Gomes horrible in actual games? Lucho probably thinks that it is also a bad luck and that it will change eventually.
So, Lucho probably doesn't do it on purpose.
He just have his own ideas and his own favorites (like some of us have faith in Deulofeu, Halilovic, Bartra, any random player, regardless of how or bad they are and regardless of how many times they screwed up over and over).
So, the same as how people still have faith in Bartra or Deulofeu even after 4-5 seasons, this is why Lucho have faith in Gomes (after "only" 8 Months).
Sometimes when you have a faith in some formation or a player which isn't working:
1. you will either end as a hero once that formation/player start to play well
2. or you will end as a stubborn idiot who was trying the same thing over and over, which wasn't working
