More expensive than Zidane, think about it.

Revenues of top clubs have more or less tripped since then so Zidane's fee now would be 3x what it was back then..Not saying Martial fee isn't ridiculous but there are better comparisons like Griezmann's release clause being equal to fee+add-on's for Martial..

But 36M£ is not that much for united actually.
You say that, but when other clubs see that Man Utd are willing to pay through-the-nose for a relative unknown, unproven player, they will drive a hard bargain whenever Man Utd comes calling and demand WAY OVER what the player is worth, from now on.

That's a big worry but I expect that situation to change if we start getting good results on the pitch and look less desperate...Clubs with money looking for quick fix usually get ripped off and clubs challenging for titles usually have stronger negotiating position...

Apparently they tried for reus but were only willing to offer 50M£ and bvb wanted 60M£. Don't know why they didn't go for it. Could have been good addition. But Reus in red :puke:

Can't be true. Who pays £36m for an unproven youngster, but isn't willing to pay £60m for a world class player like Reus? BS for sure.

Freaking journalists, what's next, "Messi wants to join United but they are unwilling to pay 100M"?
They truly are the scum of the earth.

Stop trying to defend a totally fucking ridiculous transfer fee. He's 19, no one knows if he will be any good or not, he cost £36,000,000 and they've given him the 9 shirt.

No pressure then.....

It is a ridiculous fee and a risk but the reward could make it all worth it. Better then shelling out similar amount on 2nd rate targets like Benteke. The fact is there are not many elite strikers in world football right now and almost all are unattainable, as Arsenal have seen waiting around with little hope for Benzema and Cavani. Am excited about this, we can afford to overpay and we usually do well with younger players on the cusp of things rather then established stars like Di Maria.

Don't believe that Reus stuff at all. Probably popped up because we loaned them Januzaj.

What makes you think Reus wants to go to United in the first place, especially with Van Gaal as manager.

No, it really isnt. Benteke approximately cost only about half and is a proven player in premier league. Sure, he will never be a world class striker, but he is still a much cheaper, more risk-free investment.

It's not that they've paid this much for him, they've had success investing a lot in young players, it's that they've done it so late. It reeks of panic buying.

He didn't. Martial is £36M and Benteke £32.5M and I haven't mentioned wages with the Belgian striker Liverpool's major buy this summer. If the Martial clauses are met then it would mean he's developed as hoped into a star, nobody cares about the price of a player if they become a big success.

Benteke may be PL proven but that doesn't mean he was the right signing, both Arsenal and United wanted a CF this summer and could have easily got him. Wenger decided to keep his wallet closed because he couldn't get what he wanted and United decided to invest in a young talent. We'll see and hopefully Martial will come good.
