It's not that they've paid this much for him, they've had success investing a lot in young players, it's that they've done it so late. It reeks of panic buying.

A deal was always difficult to do, he extended his contract earlier in the summer. It was only when Monaco were knocked out of the CL qualifiers last week did they agree to negotiate. If they had gone through Martial would most likely have continued to be a Monaco player this season.

United can't really complain about city using money so much. They have been spending it like crazy themselves too.The only difference is manc has been doing better.

The difference is that Shitty has enabled the money cheat by whoring themselves out.
Didn't quite work like that for United.

We wasted so much money and most of the successful players have been the cheapest ones so far its stupid. We haven't spent like City yet though, there net spend this season alone is about £100m above ours and everyone else in the top 4.

Martial wasn't leaving whether Monaco qualified or not. He was deemed untouchable along with Benardo Silva earlier in the summer. Vadim only agreed to sell due to the ridiculously large bid.

He didn't. Martial is £36M and Benteke £32.5M and I haven't mentioned wages with the Belgian striker Liverpool's major buy this summer. If the Martial clauses are met then it would mean he's developed as hoped into a star, nobody cares about the price of a player if they become a big success.

Benteke may be PL proven but that doesn't mean he was the right signing, both Arsenal and United wanted a CF this summer and could have easily got him. Wenger decided to keep his wallet closed because he couldn't get what he wanted and United decided to invest in a young talent. We'll see and hopefully Martial will come good.
Double that fee and you are closer to the truth.

Believe what you want. I'd be happy to have all the add-ons paid up anyway, it would mean he is a massive success. And we can easily afford it.

RMC reports:
€10m after 25 games for Manchester United.
€10m after 10 caps for the NT.
€10m if he's in the Ballon d'Or top 20.

He'll cost €70m at least.

Wasn't United floated on the London Stock exchange for more than a decade?

look i don't know if you're being deliberate in not understanding, but here is how it is: united's massive wealth is a product of the revenue that accompanies on-field achievement and footballing success.

PSG and city's recent footballing "success" (although neither of you are even champions of europe yet) is a product of investment from marginally interested parties.

there is a clear cause-effect relationship going on that separates united from PSG/city and you need to acknowledge it.

The name Manchester United stems from a group of 4 businessmen who all agreed to donate a portion of their personal wealth to dragging the club out of debt.

30 years later, after falling to 20th place in the second division and going bankrupt James Gibson invested in and saved the club from dissipating.

And so on. So spare me the ethical, moral, or economic arguments for why the clubs you chose to support are more deserving of success than clubs that showed up late to the party.

i'm not under the false illusion that clubs aren't businesses. they are, but what we don't see eye to eye on is whether capital preceded success or vice versa. now i'm not as deeply versed in the early years of united as i am not a united fan but what i can see from your post is that those investments were aimed at saving the club. i'm sure you and i can agree this isn't the case for PSG/city as the motive is clear: pump hundreds of millions and win the CL.
