It does seem ludicrous, IMO, how the best team in the world, again IMO, seems to be blinkered where the defence is concerned.

It has been proven time and again that we are weak when it comes to defending free kicks and corners and are vulnerable to a forward line of tall players, when crosses are put into the box.

The spine of the team is very important, and when we have 2 CBs - one of which seems to have lost all focus, the other is aging and will not play as often - and no recognised back-ups, nor players pushing for starting positions.

Using DMs as CBs is not the answer, especially when the main DM/CB convert is quite short.

Neither do we seem to be willing to give the likes of Bartra/Montoya the necessary minutes on the pitch to give them the experience needed for them to become 1st team players.

Something has to be done.

Again IMO Barca is no longer the best team in the world. We have the best midfield in the world but the midfield is not the whole team. We need to be realistic about our teams strengths and come to terms with this reality and stop this elitist mentality. With such a pathetic defence we will have to be extremely luck to win the CL
Not to mention we have the worst management among the big teams

Ignore these complainers. Some of them are the same people who defend the incompetence of Alexis despite him getting so many chances while at the same time writing off Bartra after he played only 150 minutes these season.

You are wrong. Alexis is awful attacking from the wing, but he was that when in Italy, too. He does help out defensively, like Pedro, so he's hardly a disaster, but in any case his lack of goals and need to play a central role was obvious before he was signed... for everybody but Zubi.

Why is the managerial staff so distrustful of Bartra, that even with a defence decimated by injury he's only played 150 minutes? That's the actual reason to dismiss him, not his blunders. That's on Zubi too.

This is bullshit. Zubi had two options this summer: buy somebody good for defensive cover or make sure the managers trust Bartra enough so he's given enough minutes to become said defensive cover.

He choose option 3: neither.

That is a level of incompetence unheard of in any football club. I haven't got enough words to describe how astonishingly stupid that decision was. I'm not even talking asking for his resignation, I'm talking bringing up charges for criminal negligence. How can you not be as angry about it as me? I really can't get it. It boggles the mind.

Tito in October 2012: "We had the money to sign a centre-back last summer, but I told the club to save it."

Please tell me more about Zubi being at fault.

It could be how things went, or it could be Tito trying to make best of the situation they were in. Claiming faith in the youngster could have paid off. If he actually had wanted a CB signed, bitching about it at that point wouldn't have done any good.

We also have the best attack in the world (IMO), at least when both Messi and Villa are playing. IMO, we are still the best team in the world, BUT we have one big weakness: the defense.

I can still see us winning the CL, but we'll have to press well, like we did in the Milan game. And (needless to say, I believe) our midfield and attack will need to be at their best. This defense is definitely going to cause us problems though, and could end up costing us.

When I see a defender using his hands on opponent while tackling I see a player not fit to play professional football, never mind becoming a top player.
I played as a defender and remember vividly the shouts of senior players.

Time for Bartra has gone. Not good enough or not enough chances, doesn't matter.
I also don't see him getting stronger anytime soon. He's 22 and gets bullied too easily.

^Agree. Unless he pulls a Varane which is extremely unlikely i dont see him here next season. He will go on loan and probably never return. Whether or not he was good enough for Barca we will never know as he wasnt given enough chances. But his Barca career is definitely dead and buried. But this will set a bad precedent for future cantaneros.

How is that?the kid is promoted but never convinced the management , unless he proves he is really good somewhere else it won't set any bad precedent for the youngsters

If it were up to some people barca would have 22 wc players plus Wayne Rooney, and if any of those players run into a bit of bad form he is sold and replaced buy another wc players and good help us if we lose 3 games, they won't stand for it

1 got his chance & got lucky to face barca in a bad bad form while the other 1 still waiting..

Varane is 19, Bartra 22. And Varane didn't get lucky, he has really played very well against top opposition, not just Barça. Sadly there is not one young cb as impressive as him in Barça right now.
