The first goal is on Maxwell for me. Marquinhos did great yesterday. Don't know why you guys have to pitch him and Varane against each other though. Varane is clearly not having his best season but to say Marquinhos is a much better player now because of 1 season is a bit naive. We saw last season and the one before how good Varane can be, and he is still only 21 mind you. They are both great and will be the best defenders soon.

But according to people he's bad because Barca scored 3 goals.

That can't be because DL was injured and VDW useless as usual (VDW is PSG third RB behind Marquinhos and Aurier).

It's like hoping that Varane would be able to keep the defense intact with an injured Ramos on one leg and an RB from the reserve instead of Carvajal.

Yet they completely ignore how many times he saved PSG + he won all his tackles and aerial duels.

Uh.... Marco was excellent yesterday. Only made one mistake while practically covering two positions and next to an injured CB.

I actually put that mistake mostly in VDW.

If a Barca CB took off up the pitch and left the defence exposed the way Marquinhos did he would get crucified.

He also was not great for Suarez first, getting beat too easily.

I like Marquinhos as a player but he wasnt good last night in my opinion.

How wasn't he good...? So Suarez smoked Luiz on the right side, was left unchecked by Maxwell...the left back until late in the play...then Marquinhos Is supposed to run over and save the day. It wasn't bad defending by him...it was just brilliance by Suarez. Like Bertus said, he is what, 21 and individually he played great while covering a volatile, injured Luiz and an almost useless VDW. It is because of him we didn't score a few more. He was marking Messi brilliantly in particular, even Messi was getting frustrated with him.

Messi was barely near Marquinhos for most of the game and Messi was inches away from scoring from the middle anyway in first half and also set up Neymar goal.

Not blaming him for Suarez first but he was in position to do a bit better than he did.

Where did Marquinhos take off to for first goal?

Watching Suarez 2-0 again I am even more convinced Marquinhos defended poorly, he made it too easy for Suarez to cut back on left. How bad the defending was on front of him before that is irrelevant. Suarez waltzed past him.

It is his birthday today :D ! he turned 21yo ^^

What a great season it was for him.

Many journalists in France said today that he was PSG best CB overall this season, and I fully agree with them :D (they didn't talk about his perfs as RB, he was excellent too)

To me he will always be known as the "one" that escaped. I wonder if we would have bought him had the club appointed Lucho 1 year earlier instead of Patata.

On the other hand if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. Is that not what you say in English?:lol:
