Martin Montoya

Every other option is better than Alves currently (almost) but Montoya is nothing special to be honest. He is usually a stable performer that is above average defensively but is very average offensively. I would not regret him leaving had it not been for the "excellent" transfer ban that the club has been hit by due to the incompetent board.

If TAS reduces the ban with 1 transfer window (unlikely) the club should sell all of our 3 current right backs (well Alves' contract expires in July) and acquire Danilo and a more experienced backup that would accept a role as a substitute. Adriano could act as the third option.

Neither Alves, Douglas (no further comment needed) nor Montoya are the future. Although Montoya obviously has the biggest chance of those 3 to succeed on the long run due to Alves already succeeding and having topped and Douglas being shit.

If montoya could work on being more consistently accurate with his crosses then theres no reason for him to leave, and that consistency will come with game time.

Maybe. Not entirely convinced of that though. It's not so much his crossings. It's just that he is not very convincing when going forward. Carvajal for instance is light years ahead of him on this front. Probably has a lot to do with confidence, trust and consistency as well.

Yet to be honest I don't expect Montoya to reach those heights ever.

Danilo would be ideal. From what I know about then his contract expires in the summer of 2016. If the club succeeds in reducing the transfer ban he should be a target this upcoming summer where he will only have 1 year left of his contract.

From what I've seen accuracy is literally the only thing missing from his game, he can get into attacking positions better than or as good as any RB i've ever seen. His build up game is below Carvajal/Alves but its not weak enough to be a deal breaker what with Alba doing most of the attacking and Grimaldo coming up after him looking to do the same thing. If his crosses become a constant danger then I see no reason to splash 20-30 mill on another RB that would take away the balance he creates with Alba.

He's leaving because he's being ignored, not because his crossing is not accurate.

I am not rulling Montoya out and I have been one out of many fans that have not understood Luchos treatment of Montoya considering the poor form of Alves (to put it mildly) and the laughing stock that this Douglas is.

Yet as I wrote then I am not entirely convinced by Montoya at all. Especially offensively. I am not saying that he needs to be the second coming of Alves when he was at his best but a club of our stature should have a more dangerous right back. Especially in Luchos current system. Look at our main rival. They have Marcelo and Coentrão on the left and Carvajal (what a player) and Arbeloa on the right. All aside from Arbeloa are very good at going forward.

If Montoya suddenly improves rapidly, gets more opportunities and first of all remains at the club then I see no need to buy a top right back either. At most a competent substitute.

Yet I have been following Danilo for quite some time and he has been impressing me a lot lately. A very complete right back and the future of Brazil on this position. It's a question of time before he takes the next step in his career from Porto which is no small club to begin with.

Anyway as long as Alves saves us from his unbelievably good crossings it would be a great start, lol.

He's not going to leave since the club said they're only taking the buyout and no one is going to play 20mill + taxes for montoya when he's cup tied (did he play in cl?)

@leo_Messi If Danilo is as good as you say then sure, Adriano and Alves are old and Douglas is our Anderson so we'll need another RB anyway, + montoya can play LB as well so at the least he will be able to take over Adriano's squad role.

I don't know how fair it is to judge him by what his agent is saying, but the attitude that is being conveyed to me by these stories is too much. He's not anywhere near good enough to make any demands on playing. He's a simple average backup like any random RB we could grab from the bottom of the table. He doesn't have any of the technical skill which Dani still shows at times, and is needed for our team. He often doesn't even do the simple things well.

The only reason he gets any support on here and elsewhere is because of Dani, Douglas, and Lucho. If everyone weren't so upset with those three, everyone would recognize him as the easily replaceable who has no place in the future of this team.

Hopefully we can get a RB who is slightly above average at least next winter. I don't care what happens to Montoya so long as he plays a small role going forward, and sticks to his safe play where he's as irrelevant as possible.

Oh yes. God damn you Montoya. You hack. Get lost for wanting to leave because of being frozen out by the manager and having no chance to play and having a nobody Brazilian preferred ahead of you.

You mediocre player. You don't deserve to be disappointed or angry and your attitude stinks for signing a new contract when other teams wanted you. Your attitude stinks because you wanted to fight for a starting place even though you were already playing less and now wanting to leave when you're not playing at all.

How dare he.
