But there is a difference in quality between... say... Busquets circa '08 and the catera players from today. In the end, it's not about forcing cantera players in the first team if they are not good enough, it's about players who have what it takes or don't. Simple as that. I choose to think that, if we don't promote new, young players atm, it's because they are not ready. Barcelona cannot afford experiments, like taking a so-so player from the B group and make him better by playing him in the first team. No, IMO you take an already amazing and accomplished youngster and shape him into a world class player. We're not Arsenal, we don't raise players in the first team at the expense of trophies.
The really ridiculous thing about this is that the talks appear to be about a move in January. If Alves was to get injured then we would only have Adriano for cover at right back and he is constantly getting injured. We had to play Puyol there against Ajax and we all saw how well that went. Letting him go at the end of the season would be a poor decision as I really do think he is a more than adequate replacement for Dani. Letting him go in the winter though would be downright lunacy. The only reason for it would be to make a bit of money off him instead of letting him go for free in the summer and I have no doubt that Rossel prefers this to the latter option, even if it means weakening the squad for the rest of the season.
You're just delusional then...Name one player that has been promoted or featured with the 1st team in the last couple of seasons...In Pep's time, there was at least one every season
In contrast, how many cantera players who were counted on left the club during Pep's time?...And now?
Wrong
Rafinha & Deulofeu aren't even on the first team, they are loaned players
Busquets, Pedro & Victor Sanchez were youth promotions for the 08-09 season...Jeffren was promoted for 09-10 while Bartra, Dos Santos, Fontas, Thiago & 5 other B teamers were used during the season by Pep...14 B teamers used the following season for 10-11 including Montoya, Deulofeu, Olazabal & Roberto...2011-2012, Pep's last season saw Thiago promoted along with Cuenca & Fontas...13 B teamers used that season including Rafinha, Bartra and Tello
Tito's campaign saw the official promotion of Tello, Montoya, Dos Santos & Bartra - all players that played with the first team under Guardiola before promotion...How many new youth players debuted last season?...None...This season under Tata, two players promoted, Olazabal & Roberto - both to have first been given a chance by Pep...Oier is a nonfactor while Roberto is a consequence of Thiago's exit otherwise he too would've been loaned out...and still might be this January...Adama & Patric are the first youth teamers to get their debuts with the first team since Pep's departure
Pep brought in the youth, not Tito...The departures that have been occurring in the past season are inextricably linked to that void in philosophy of integrating the youth...The cantera players, including ones who are now in the first team, have repeatedly pointed to Pep giving youth team players belief they could play with the 1st team
Not surprisingly, one of those cantera players went right to Pep this past offseason...The re-emphasis on the cantera is not credited to anyone but Pep and any changes in that can only be linked to his absence...As I said before, no one knew who Pedro (Apart from a debut from Rijkaard, not a promotion) or Busquets were before Pep
As for using other players and counting on them, clearly you've decided to ignore Jeffren, Tello & Cuenca
