Barcelona's right-back, Martin Montoya is going to renew his contract at the club, says his agent.

Barcelona will tomorrow again meet with Montoya's agent. Despite offers from Liverpool, Inter and Roma, a renewal deal seems close. [md]

I didn't like him today, again. Not half the player Alves is. Has a lot to improve.

It was a mixed performance. Defensively he was good except for 1 throughball that he let past. In attack he was great with the overlaps and linkups, doing it exactly as he should've done for a fullback unlike Alves who would've loitered around up top. His final delivery was missing which is what was frustrating in a match as tight as this one. Even then he was suffering at the hands of Juanfran who played a lucky game and had like 10 or more blocks, so it's not entirely to Montoya's blame that he couldn't get a ball through.

Yeah, I still think he has the right skill set to make it but strangely enough, he has stagnated for quite a time now... I liked him a lot better last season, especially in attack.

His final pass is really something he should work on. Not the first game he makes good runs/finds himself in a good position and then plays a bad pass.

Well he's a bit all over the place, a thing good another thing not so and unstable. He definitely needs improvement, but he also needs time in order to be consistent.

Montoya was terrible in the final third both with the ball at his feet and lack of over lapping runs to make space for Montoya.

Alves was missed massively and he doesn't 'loiter up top' at all. He consistently has had stats that has shown he covers as much ground as anyone else.

For this Barcelona team they need full backs that are brilliant going forward and decent defensively much more than a good defender that is poor going forward.

Obviously ideally they would be both but there are very few full backs in the world like that just now.

That's what bothers me about him the most. His decision making is awful.

If he could ad a end product to his game he can be Alves`s successor but I don't think that will improve because it is so useless at the moment....when he gets the ball in a dangerous area and I realize its Montoya I think if only this was Alves.
