Martin Odegaard

We got Halilovic, they got Odegaard. You can't get them all.

Yes we did. But they are not comparable, sorry. Not even close. Halilovic didn't boss the Croatian league like Ødegaard did at 15 in Tippeligaen or with the NT, two leagues that are not too far apart in quality. Martin also has two full years to develop under Ancelotti and Zidane before he's at Halilovics age...

...

The thing that experts keep talking about as the thing that makes Martin so special, and what has impressed the clubs so much in these trainings, is his footballing intellect. There are kids his age who can drible with similar technique, but what separates all of these youngsters with a talent like Ødegaard is his ability to gauge distance and timing, knowing when and where to turn, releasing the ball through the right channels at the right time etc. This is something the coaches and the development experts at these clubs recognize as an extremely rare combination of traits. A combination they know talents that went on to become world class players all share and have in common. With Martin, all of this is supposedly at a ridiculous level for a player his age.

That's why people saying "I've seen similar techinique at my local pitch" are so far out in the woods without a map and compass it's not even funny. There's a reason why getting into the top crop of the football world require more than a good touch. If it didn't many more would do it, and we would be seeing many more Messis and Iniestas coming through. But football is fortunately a lot more complex than that, which is the reason it's the best sport in the world in my opinion.

Martin getting chased by all of these clubs is not a happy coincidence. He's visited Bayern years ago doing trainings. Quality always persists over time as hype fades.

Would we really have wanted him at 80 k per week no matter how good any other clubs would have been for him he would take madrids offer with outlandish wages

I'm sorry but the Croatian League is also better and tougher than the Norwegian League.

Either way, our 1998 generation is stacked with talented youngsters. Let Madrid have Odegaard. I just hope they don't ruin him.

Giving a youngster a contract that huge is a big no. We don't pay any of our youth players that much.

I said they are not too far apart in quality. And they're not, even if the Croatian league is indeed better. But then again, Martin was 15 and at his best destroyed teams in Norway, so...

Luckily I don't base my argument on how good he is solely on how he did during his time in Tippeligaen, that's just not necessary anymore. He impressed the top clubs in the world to the degree that he could pick and choose at his liking, and he's now going to train with Real Madrids first team. The proof is in the pudding.

Again, that could be our loss. If Ødegaard becomes the next big thing it was worth it, and Real Madrid can laugh all the way to the bank while we cling on to our principles with tears in our eyes as he scores against us in a clasico.

Well, I hope that Barca wont ruin Halilovic. Lets stop with this bullshit alright? His success is up to him, Im pretty sure that Real wont try to ryin a talent like that.
Exactly so id say hes took the offer for the money more than footballing reasons

It was both. It seems that Real offer was best in both aspects.

That's not how I meant it. I hope that the money Real is paying him doesn't go straight to Martin's head. Not Real's fault if he doesn't make it, unless he were mismanaged which is highly unlikely.

Where would he get a better development? Fighting relegation with Eusebio as that project crumbles more and more apart for each passing week?

Perhaps Bayern, but again the deal they offered didn't give him the same guarantees as Madrid. Again, training with the first team during the week and then a few days with frikkin' Zidane before playing a game every weekend will be insane for his development.

Castilla also has good chances of promotion to the segunda division in the summer. Barca B? Who knows...
