I don't get your point. Leave Götze out. It's the worst example you could chose.
Götze would have left anyway, regardless wether BVB had a replacement or not.

Dortmund knew Gotze would leave, that's why there were rumors about replacements before it happened.
If Mats was about to leave, you would find credible infos on BvB new targets.

It's to cover possible injuries from their starters, to prepare the future, and most of all, he's very young.
If they were about to sell Hummels, they would not replace him with a 20yo guy.
Nothing is impossible. Did anybody expect Bayern to sell Kroos? Or Liverpool Suarez? We won't know until we make a real push, which we haven't yet.

Kroos contract runs out next year and the player refused to renew it. So it's kind of different.
As for Suarez, we don't know the details of the new contract he signed last year with Liverpool. There were rumors there was agreement between the club and suarez to let him leave if a good offer arrived (for around £75-80M at the time, we will see later if Barcelona managed to get a discount)

Not true, they're on the verge of signing Ginter and are heavily linked to other defenders like Schär and Mustafi.
Added to that, they already signed Sokratis 1 year ago without selling a CB and Subotic is coming back from injury for next season. They have enough options; sooner or later Hummels will want to leave and if we give them enough money they would rather see him at Barça than at Bayern.

Reus turned down Man Utd to join us but we went for Suarez instead. He probably would've been out of Dortmund already if things went differently.
They'd surely consider selling Hummels if a decent offer come in...

You really expect Klopp to sell Hummels to replace him with Ginter?
A chance many BvB fans don't think like you. Hopefully Klopp does not either.
Bayern usually never sells their top talents, so it was a surprise they let him go so easily. Regarding Liverpool, I was under the impression, he would stay if they got back into the CL. So who knows? Point is, nobody expected these two players to leave their respective clubs, back in May.

As I've said, they already bought Sokratis last summer and played practically the whole season without Subotic. Subotic/Sokratis is perfectly fine as a starting defense and Ginter will be slowly introduced to the team. He has loads of talent.
Maybe they will also buy Schär, I don't know. Again, they have enough options.
