Mats Hummels

He doesn't have the stamina for it. He would run all the time if he could but it's not possible for him, even worse when he's playing in a counter attacking team that doesn't have the ball most of the time.

Concerning Hummels, he's indeed pretty fast when you only look at the top speed. But the problem is that hardly anyone cares about top speed; acceleration and agility are far more important and that's what Hummels is not very good at, unfortunately. The thing with Messi is that while he's not even remotely the fastest player on the planet, he literally goes from 0 to 100% speed in a matter of moments - whether he's got the ball or not - while most players take a very long time to reach a high speed, and players like Hummels or Piqué are very good examples for this - that's why they look like turtles at times.

Well you have one player who was questionable for the match for many days before, who still worked his ass off and ran across the pitch like somebody who was being hunted and you have a guy who mostly "conserved his energy" to put it mildly. Of course the latter would outsprint him in some instances (prolly mostly later in the game).

May be so. Yet he barely ran across the pitch in that match (not the first time btw). And I think few will doubt that you can sprint faster on more occasions if you don't run 15 km per match but only 10 or less.

Messi was outsprinting Hummels early in the 1st half

'Conserving energy' had pretty much nothing to do with it because the instances happened when everyone had a good amount of stamina in them. I could believe the injury would've slowed him down a bit though.

The bias is strong with this one. Defending Hummels by saying he isn't slow is one thing (I agree) but arguing he's potentially faster than Messi is just stupid.

As was remarked earlier, there is a difference between fast and good acceleration, there is a difference between speed with the ball and speed without the ball. You should stick to those categories as well, before you call others stupid because of claims they didn't make.
Fact of the matter is, Hummels was the fastest player on the pitch in a single sprint without the ball. Not Messi. That is the only claim I made which was related to Messi and it is backed up by fact.

Screw these alleged facts. If you actually watched the game, you'd see Messi outsprinting Hummels twice in one play early first half. He barely broke a sweat doing so either.

Yeah but Hummels was the fastest player on the pitch. FACT.

You able to read AND comprehend?
Obviously there was an instant in which Hummels was faster than any other player on the pitch. FACT.

Hummel's,pique, verthogen are almost the same in terms of pace and acceleration and there are a lot of CB's that are faster than them :kompany,Ramos, thiago Silva, marquinhos, john stones,David luiz e.t.c Hummel's and pique are one of the slowest cb's around

Seriously ?? I'd rate Pique a couple notch below them in term of pace.

I read Dortmund signed a promising CB 20y old? Would they be looking to offload one of their CBs? Who do they have now at CB: Hummels, Subotic, Sokratis and that new 20y old? Maybe they're open to a sale of Hummels?

I think it's more of fear of losing all their defence again for most part of the season. They simply have learned.

Ginter can also play holding midfielder, which is a bonus since Sven Bender is pretty injury prone.
