Mats Hummels

From what medias kind of say here, he kind of played on one valid leg yesterday.

People keep saying he didn't do great yesterday but i think that he was the best CB overall in this WC.

He's with Neuer, Löw and some others the ones that i'm happy to see world champions even if I rooted for Argentina.

And he didn't reach his peak yet imo. Immense player.

Bale is insanely fast when in top form without any injury niggles or anything which he was that day. No defender would have caught him 1 on 1. What Bartra should have done or any defender should have done in that situation would have been fouling Bale and taking one for the team.

I dont blame Bartra at all. He was inexperienced, but now he will learn from that and come back much stronger next time.

Most people missed one thing. When bale was outside the field and both bartra and bale started to run the ball was moving and the ball took a little curved trajectory towards bale that gave him the advantage.

Imo,if alves wanted to track back and he did he may have stopped that goal and jordi alba would surely match his pace without a doubt.

Isn't the popular belief here that Hummels is not a fast CB but actually really slow?

Boy were you wrong. Fastest man on the pitch during the match Germany vs. Argentina (that includes Messi, yes) was in fact Mats Hummels with 31,61 kph.
So as a conclusion, we can assume that Hummels is actually rather fast for a CB.

Where on earth did you get that stat from? Did you not watch the game, and in particular Messi dribbling right past Hummels at least 2-3 times?

Hummels is a great player and one of my favourite defenders but claims that he was the fastest player on the pitch in the WC final are just laughable...

maybe they think marquinhos is better equipped to cover a rb attacking foray better than benatia.

I remember 1 dribble from Bartra from the back that almost resulted in an indivisual goal. Come back when Marcos can do that

His full speed is decent, just lacks acceleration, as most tall players do.

A reliable German sports website (ran.de) which posted all kinds of statistics of the game. So claiming you are beyond actual facts, is in turn "just laughable".

Nice nice.

Best CB ever. He totally is my favorite above TS since that WC :worthy:

Not saying he is slow but Messi outsprinted him twice... with a ball.

Fastest speed means nothing, I am sure pique or any one for that matter fastest speed will be very high. Hummels pace is okay, put him one on one with players like bale messi Ronaldo Sanchez robben he might suffer. But he makes up for his lack of speed with positioning and timing.

Well you have one player who was questionable for the match for many days before, who still worked his ass off and ran across the pitch like somebody who was being hunted and you have a guy who mostly "conserved his energy" to put it mildly. Of course the latter would outsprint him in some instances (prolly mostly later in the game).

Yeah sure Messi outsprinted him because he "conserved his energy" not because he is the fastest player on earth with the ball

May be so. Yet he barely ran across the pitch in that match (not the first time btw). And I think few will doubt that you can sprint faster on more occasions if you don't run 15 km per match but only 10 or less.
