Mats Hummels

I thought he was OK, was partially at fault for the first goal, but Badstuber should have dealt with Balo better. IMO it wasn't Hummels' fault that Loew gave no shits about Italy's attacking ability and told his players to attack like retards...Loew in the dressing room before the game: "Just go full on attack boys....whose gonna score against us, that retard Balotelli?"

Still a great center back.

Agree. It's definitely his fault his manger plays him in a high line against a fast counter attacking team. Coloccini would have owned Balotelli like a boss.

Not the best game of his but the blame can't be put on him solely. The German defence looked very poor all game long.

I mean if a shitty team like Greece can score two goals against them..

Both Badstuber and Lahm were worse than him today.

Overall he still had a brilliant tournament and a game like this will only make him a better player.

Didn't impress the few mins i watched of the game. Now the big question is: would Barca be interested still, after that showing, considering he was never really a priority target to begin with? I think this performance might 've done more harm than good for his chances of coming here.

Btw, if he can't play a high-line for Germany, he can't play for us.

Of course he could. Germany averages just above 50 % possession. Barca averages 70+ with infinitely more competent midfielders infront of him and a whole team that knows how to compress and expand the size of the pitch as a unit. If Pique can play in a high line Hummels can do it as well. The high line didn't expose him at all by the way. He just lost a 1 on 1 duel against a very clever Cassano and after going down 0-2 the moral went down + Germany threw everyone forward which left Hummels even more exposed at the back.

Löw is the only one to blame for today's showing.

+1. Was just going to say this. It wasn't Hummels' inability to play in a high line that cost Germany today, Germany were undisciplined and didn't even have a 'high line' in the true sense of it, if high line means committing forward recklessly and giving no respect to Italy's ability to move the ball forward quickly, then the Germans certainly played a high line, but their defense was so disorganised it wasn't even funny. This was Low just underestimating his opponent more than anything else, when you disrepect your opponent like that (just look at the Germans' pre-match comments), and tell your players to go full on attack and have no plan whatsoever to get back then you'll fuck up even with Nesta and Maldini as your center backs. Hummels is still a great center back, he has all the makings of it. He made 1 bad mistake tonight against Cassano but people are exaggerating his poor showing too much, he was better than Lahm and Badstuber.
