He's great when he comes with pace from the back. I don't think he'd be very effective without a player in front of him.

With good coaching he shouldn't be alone on that flank. The systems should be fluid not rigid. You think the midfielders should stay there and that's it? Suarez too(or if we get anyone else) should pitch in and occupy that space sometimes. It all depends on manager to train these types of systems after all that's what total football is about. Cruyff's vision at times was a 3-4-3 formation.

Pep against RM in 2011 switched to 3 at the back after RM suffocated us in the first minutes and scored in the first 30 seconds of the match. He advanced Alves forward, pulled back Abidal into a back 3 and we went on to reverse the game with 3 goals and win at the Bernabeu, while dominating them after a shaky first 25 minutes. Sure, that team is the GOAT but just pointing out that tactical flexibility is an advantage in certain situations.

He is very criticized here but i remember being here in the chat during Real Madrid - Barça game. The third one on that week, i think.

I was very much impressed by the defensive perfomance and discipline of Barcelona and made them my favorites to win CL due to that factor.

Messi/Suarez can score at any moment and you are just not conceding a lot.

Maybe his playstyle is not enjoyable but if he ends up winning the CL, he would have to be credited, at least for his pragmatism.

We may as well get Jose by that reasoning

In this current market, 80m is a steal with him already being a very good CB.... with the potential to be world-class in a few years. I suspect we'll sell Umtiti for around 60m in the summer.

Two sources reporting today that Umtiti’s injury has resurfaced ( as expected given he refused surgery) and his season is over .

This transfer makes so much sense for every party involved, that it is hard to not see it happen. Ajax and Barcelona have a long lasting connection of how they see football.

In more ways than one Barcelona are basically a bigger, more economically powerful version of Ajax. The core values are pretty much the same.
