Keep in mind that we also have the 50mil paulinho money and if Paco keeps scoring goals for Dortmund another 25mil when they buy him. So a big transfer like De Ligt is possible but what with Frenky? Signing of a striker? Solution for our RB? Big choices to make next summer. I would go for De Ligt, think that when we look in our own La Masia that we lack a young quality cb like him.

I feel that if we're going to sign De Jong, then we'll probably sell Rakitic who is getting on age and would be likely to bring the most money out of the midfielders. Plus we don't have any space for the other midfielders even without De Jong so selling a midfielder would be the likeliest choice, probably Rakitic.

The problem I could see here is that Ajax won't be willing to sell both De Jong and De Light to us in one summer. De Jong should be easier, since his dream is to come here. But De Light is more necessary, because of the shambles named Gerard Pique.

He is running up Paco Alcacer stats at Genoa. To be honest they haven't really played the elite of Serie A yet and from the goals he has scored, the majority are headers from crosses and touch and shoot inside the penalty box. The type of striker that we would bring off the bench as a plan B.

Just edited to say that actually, Valverde has a lot of experience with this sort of player with Aduriz. Absolutely love the way that he performed at Bilbao under Valverde.

Just going by recent rumours. Koulibaly was also mentioned by MD. If Pique is fully concentrated and on his game I have no qualms about him playing. He is not that old but his problems are off the field. Previously it was gambling till early hours at the Barcelona Casino, now it is his business ventures. You can't have it all and if he is not performing to the level he should, I wouldn't miss a generational talent because of nepotism. Him as a businessman now would surely understand that too.

Going off point slightly, I can see Ajax selling both to the highest bidders after a Monaco-esque CL run this year. I fully see us getting one of them. Most likely De Jong.

We could also sell Verm, Rafinha, Denis, plus we'll get Paulinho money in winter, Paco money (if Dortmund buys him) and Marlon santos money aswell, not to mention Gomes could also be sold next summer.

I think we are more than good when it comes to affording both, but the only problem is that this board wants some shiny player like Pogba who will cost atleast 100M+.

I guess Munir will sign an extension, or it will be foolish to let him go for free. I think it is one of the reason why we decided to keep him instead of Paco this season.

Because, getting a new CB isn't a luxury but a priority, while a new MF is not that big of a priority, and the market is big for a good MF.

Plus, De ligt gives me Mbappe vibes, I mean you rarely see that maturity at such young age, & he is a perfect Pique replacement you could find.

I do have reservations about his speed and adaptation to higer level, but those risks come with every young high potential player, even De jong.

Marlon was already sold last summer, I suspect that Paulinho money won't be considered into next summer transfers either.
The board hasn't signed a "shiny toy" for some time, both Coutinho and Dembele were badly needed and they were the only big names signed since 2014. Rumors will keep floating but actions doesn't look that way IMHO.

Doubt Munir will accept renewal, I think we kept him because no one wanted to pay anything for him with 1 year left in his contract, so we decided to let Paco go and bring us some money and let Munir be stop gap, in 85 days he can sign somewhere else. vermaelen contract ends this season too and he will be almost 34, will let him walk for free and enjoy play in in a less physically demanding league

That said, we will have enough money in the transfer market, but we need many reinforcements too.
We need a striker (although Suarez is in good form this year) a CB, a back LB and RB might be in the mix too along a new midfielder. We can't spend 70 or 80M in each one of 3 or 4 of those.

I don't disagree with you. It is a really interesting dilemma. I suspect the board would opt for De Jong because a) he fits the profile of midfielder that we have struggled to find for years and b) they will see him as a CB option when needed. Not that i'm condoning positioning him there.

The other thing is that if De Ligt ends in the 70-80m range, I feel that Abidal will believe there is a Ligue 1/French option who has a high ceiling at half the price. Just a hunch and no sources backing this one up. It is fair to assume that they would be more confident in finding another CB option than another MF option.
