I don't know about other upcoming CB's in world football around the age 19 - 22, but if you splash 70M on him, you would be settled for a decade.
How much is it to have an 7M investment per year on possibly a top-5 CB in the next 10 years. Buying a CB every 3 years at 40-50M would be more costly in the long run.
I would go for both de Ligt & de Jong next summer, and try to offload Rakitic to PSG for 100M.

Buying de Ligt would mean Pique is gone and we all know that won't happen unless we get a manager that has the balls and the suppport of the board to do that.
Pique is just turning 32 this season, if he doesn't decide to quit early we could be stuck with him as a starter for another 2 seasons. He could be benched but i would seriously doubt that will happen the way that the board buys a new 60M+ CB to flat out replace him.
Same for Suarez. We won't get tier 1 talents to sign for us just for the bench and it would also be way too expensive.

Are there other talented CBs out there? Sure.
But this guy is special. He might be 19 years old, but he plays like he's 29. So composed, poised and he's a natural leader. He has that x-factor and leadership skills that are rare. Not many players have it, let alone CBs his age.
He makes that entire Ajax defence play much better when he's there commanding the defence. This guy is a possible generational defender and someone Barcelona absolutely must try signing. This is not overrating a kid, this is someone that has passed every test he's faced and pocketed almost every WC forward he's faced from Mbappe, Griezmann to Lewandowski last night.
We can go cheap and sign some other La Liga or Ligue 1 CB for 30m, but this is the guy IMO, even if he costs 60m+.

Why not? Leave Pogba alone and you can sign both.
de Ligt is more needed right now though, looking at Pique.

In my opinion yes. Some team is going to pay big bucks for him and likely keep him for a decade and have him as their future captain.
Now in case BBZ comes in with a 10 page post about why we should not sign a 19 year old defender, let me post this photo of him playing all bloodied up like a true warrior. Then he'll get BBZ's seal of approval.

I don't think he pocketed Mpabbe at all, in fact VVD was better playing against him while Mpabbe was exploding in that game regardless. Not a knock on the kid but I really didn't see it this way.
Also how is his speed, whenever I watch him or watch highlights it seems he is good in putting himself in a position where he doesn't need to use his speed much, makes me a bit unsure if he is fast or average in speed.
He is surely someone to keep an eye onto though we haven't been linked with him since Roberto left, other names like Pavard and Skriniar seem to be in the mix too

This guy is real, not just a hype. I'm Ajax but also Barcelona fan and this is something that Barca needs badly, just as FDJ.
Players for next decade. Yesterday MDL had a great game against mighty Bayern and this is not first time that he shines in big game!
