Whether Koeman is right or wrong Puig should have left on loan to try and prove himself.

His physique is a huge issue. Can see he avoids some situations where would need to compete for ball or shield it. He does work hard and get stuck in but a bit like Messi tends to do it when unexpected from opposition and not consistently in way team needs.

Moves ball very quickly which is his biggest strength but does not have much after that and if he does and is told not in plans he needs to go out on loan and prove it.

You are right. I hope he leaves in January. He shouldn't waste his time here.

Physique is obvious. Don't know about the rhythm of the ball and I think he has shown enough competitivness in games but maybe he's just not doing well on trainings to actually convince RK to give him minutes.

OTOH as I've said before I also think Puig just doesn't fit into Koeman's system and he's clearly not a player you change your system for to fit him in. The only position where I think Koeman sees Puig playing in is where FDJ plays. And Frenkie is the one RK wants to build his midfield/team around so he'll play almost always when available. If there is one attribute Frenkie is (close to) world class now is his stamina. He doesn't need to rest often and can play every three days being consistently a top 3 runner in the team (which means more this season with more younger legs around him than him "overrunning" the oldies last year). I do believe he'd maybe get a bit more consistency if he'd get some rest here and there. Maybe more a mental than a physical rest. When minutes accumulates through the season you get more tired. Your legs are maybe not tired but your brain is telling you something different so you can become more prone to do mistakes you usually wouldn't do like easy misplaced passes etc.

I just don't see Puig playing in a double pivot together with FDJ which some people would like to see. They both like to move around and not keep the position like Busi and Pjanić. At least that's what they're supposed to do eventhough Busi usually fails to do his work these days. We don't fully know what we have in Pjanić yet but we surely know for a few years now what we (don't) have in Busi.

The only way I see Puig getting more minutes is with FDJ getting injured and for all criticism (some fair other not so) that's not something we would like to see. So going on loan in January and playing regular first team minutes elsewhere would be the best for him.

Koeman also needs to improve in many ways, but his career hasn't shown that. Seems to play the same brand of football with all his teams.

I'll never understand why some coaches unilaterally dismiss a player before giving them a chance. There's always some with every manager.

I know we harp about player egos but some of these guys have tremendous egos compared to their coaching accomplishments. Koeman is a nobody or at best average as a manager (only as a manager).

It is coaches job to select players or dismiss them, irrelevant of their history.
There is 25 players in the squad, they can't give fair chance to everyone either.

He can at least drop the players that are delivering average performances and see how the other players perform. Btw I don't even rate Puig that highly either , but the guy is really getting done dirty by Koeman. Especially when you have the likes of Busquets having one disasterclass after the other and Fdj dropping several average performances.

And how is Koeman going to complain about physique when this guy played almost every game:
