Mavericky Puig

I rate this player very highly.
Maybe the most impressive thing is him constantly getting on in these strange situations, without being match fit, and playing like it's nothing - demanding the ball, bringing it forward, choosing the right option, succeeding with some tight passes... A top 5 minute midfielder for sure, whether he is a top 5 midfielder or not (how to judge when he never plays)

Yet another 5minute MOTM performance.

Highlights
-A split second smile when entering the pitch only. It's all business tonight boys.
-Passes to Valladolid player, Valladolid player passes it back, Puig then passes to Dembele out wide.
-Runs on the counter towards the box, spots Trincao, ignores Trincao, spots Braithwaite, ignores Braithwaite. Proceeds to shoot with a hit worse than Pedri.
-Tsu-like jump when celebrating the winning goal.

MOTM stuff. In Puig we trust. President of the Valencia Government by day, 5minute cameo's for Barca by night.

I'm not even sure he is that naive just so desperate to make things happen to make an impression in a small window of time that he forces it.

You are unreasonable. Reason says he got in and we won, thus he is the reason we won.

Had one serious chance, and he decided to selfishly shoot it as opposed to passing it to Trincao on the right flank I believe

Had this been before the goal I would not shill him ever again.
It was a terrible choice, and he also made a poor pass (which he won back immediately) and passed in front of a still standing Dembele (as Koeman wants him to do) after the goal.
Before the goal he was great, without doing so many hard things, just one nice pass, one won ball, and then running and moving correctly all the time, changing the game with his energy and class!

Did you see the jump when cheering after the goal?! Almost Tsu-like in his jumping reach

You're welcome
Didn't pick up too much of his performance. But there was one occasion where he should've passed it to Trincao who could've gone for goal instead of Puig shooting it directly at goal from distance.

He took a shot, big deal, he already did the job for the goal, he saved the game already so he just wanted to fool around a bit.

Reason why Illax is above him in the pecking order was directly noticable after the 1-0.

Illax got the ball on the left flank, could have taken the option to send Dembele deep with risk of losing the ball. Decided to make a turn, take time and chooses possession in the crucial minutes.

30 seconds later. Ball ends with Riqui, decides to take a pass without really looking and take time and passes into a Vall player. Lucky ball retention which leads to a chance. Decides to shoot from 25 meters instead of opening the play via Trincao.

Small differences but huge ones in these minutes. He needs to chill when needed. He is always in overdrive, which is not needed at times. You need to play the same rythm as your teammates. He has the same age as FDJ and passed the talent phase without really showing something. Pedri before and Illax now are showing bigger potential.

Squad player at best for now.
