Mavericky Puig

Nothing self-righteous about it. Do you honestly think he will get better playing 5 minutes once every 3 games? He is clearly not trusted by Koeman, the example is the Alaves game where Puig did very well and then didn't see minutes for weeks.

The situation won't change for him next season at Barcelona either. He's got the tools to develop into a very good footballer but without playing regularly that won't happen.

It is OK to think Koeman hate him or whatever but even Spain U21 coach consider him nothing but a warming bench option.

Funny if he goes on loan then warm the bench again.

Alenya: "Go out on loan, take your career seriously"

Puig: "Never, I'm a Maverick" *sniffle*

Alena is a better player and takes his career better as well.

I don't think Koeman hates him at all but just doesn't rate him enough to trust him. We are now 1 point behind the leaders so he's found a formula and there are players coming through or the same age that will be ahead of him in the pecking order.

The only sensible thing to do is try and get football elsewhere to try and develop as best he can.

I mean not only Koeman not rate him but also other coaches. He can not even make it into youth team like U21 Spain XI.

He may know that if he goes on loan, he may warm the bech like at Barca so better warm the bench for Barca rather than for lower teams.

Think it is fairly simple... Koeman sees him as a liability defenisively due to his frame/height and headless chicken running. But rates his ability to move the ball quickly and has used that late on in games when still in balance.

Could take him on a bit earlier at times maybe but Iliax is the preferred option with 20/30 mins to go as he brings more to table all round.

Ah okay misunderstood, apologies. Yeah, it's a situation I could quite easily see happening too.

He should have go on loan two years ago, I think it's too late now and he won't be a fixed starter even at a club like Betis or Levante. He has clear physical limitations but also didn't develop as much as he could first staying at Barca B for too long and then insisting on staying this season even if Koeman was pretty clear with him he won't get much playing time.

I honestly think some people would rather see Puig start every game, run around like mad, try a through ball every 5 touches and be out of the title race.

Since the Cadiz loss we've won 16/19 games. We couldn't really do much better. Koeman has decided he doesn't trust Puig entirely and it's worked out so why anyone here would know any better is beyond me.

It's a shame when an exciting player turns out to not be what we thought, if he improves he'll force Koeman's hand. Until then he's simply not good enough.

THIS

And its not like Pjanic(or other washed up players like Raki and Vidal) are in front of him. He is not getting chances because younger players than him are preferred. That is why I don't understand most people here wanting Puig to play at all costs.

Even if Koeman hated Puig, I would still support his decision of not playing him, because he has the results and is giving chances to all the other youngsters and all of them are delivering, what more do you want from him this transition season.

I think Bobo32 for all his good intentions is the only guy who thinks Puig should be a starter. I'm half-certain he'd include him in a World XI at this point.

He's probably the only one who thinks he should start every game but I'm even talking about the people who think he should be starting 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 games, which seems to be a lot. To me even that is a silly suggestion considering the results we've had since Cadiz.

Yep and on top of all of that we're playing the best football we've seen in years, closer to "Barca style". They want their cake, to eat it, and for another one to magically appear.

The team has played decently since that Cadiz game overall, it is correct.
I don't demand a lot better results than that, and I don't think Puig, or any other player, would be a guarantee for better results.

But don't let the results fool you into thinking Barcelona have been great, or that Koeman has been great. Remember Barcelona have had the better team in every game they have won, still they have needed luck in quite a few of them, sometimes against teams I never even heard of before... They lost the supercopa very unnecessarily and CL was an embarrasment, and Koeman has made many strange decisions, often just worsening the team. Messi is the goat and he has shown it, other players also saved Koeman multiple times.
At least twice since that Cadiz game the consensus here have been that Barcelona obviously needs to get rid of Koeman.

Regarding Puig, it is not like he is coming on and playing terribly one game and then just OK the next; he is showing with every appearance that he is deserving of more minutes. Based on what we see in the games, I cannot understand how anyone can say he isn't good enough. Of course there might be things going on in training or otherwise that I don't know about, but the situation is strange.

What is good is Koeman does what he thinks is best, I respect it and think it is necessary and what Barcelona needed. He is not overperforming with this Barcelona though, and he is certainly not above critique. And if Puig needs to do something, it is not to play better the minutes he gets, because I never saw a player convince more with so little playing time.

If he's not being picked by multiple managers then he's not good enough. People use Niasse at Everton as an example of Koeman just not liking a player. Niasse went on to have a wonderful career...not.

The results don't fool me, there's several things Koeman needs to improve. Similarly don't let Puig being 5ft 5 and agile fool you into thinking he's an excellent fit for us. This whole idea he impresses every time on the pitch is wrong too. He came on the other day, misplaced multiple passes and made the wrong decisions leading to a turnover in possession when we're 1-0 up in a crucial game. He's also came on and looked great for us, true. Mostly when the game is won or over.
