Mavericky Puig

Exactly. You can see he and Busquets are on the same wavelength- quick wall passes to keep the ball moving and the defenders chasing. When Puig offers himself short, chances are you are going to get the ball back in a better position. A lot of the players don't get that and either dwell on the ball or hoof a longer pass (into the crowd of defenders playing behind the ball).

That quality isn't there across the team right now which is why Xavi is playing differently and Puig isn't the first option.. As the team gets better, Puig will feature more prominently.

well explanation

And there we go.. folk think passing quickly to first man available is impressive.

Adding next to nothing to help break Betis down.

That would be 3-0 down Barca are in minutes Puig has played in league since Koeman left. Top stuff.

I think "passing quickly to the first man" is a very stingy way to describe his game.

He did nothing spectacular but I think it was pretty visible that we progressed better and more smoothly in attack when he was around.

Riqui Puig: "There is a bad taste in our mouths, but we have to keep playing and working hard. The goal will end up coming, but today we were unlucky. We all want to play, and now I'm getting minutes. I'm happy and I feel like a player again."

If this is considered a good game from a Barca player, then the club deserves everything that is happening right now.

This guy has the worst positional sense in the whole team. Always being in other players way. People who see similarities in his play with midfielders in the Pep era, have probably never watched 2008-2012 Barca.

Yep. It's about fluidity. When more of the team is playing that way AND we have some more real threats in the front line (Fati and hopefully others in the future), that fluidity will pay off.

Decent game, could have done better. He is slowly gaining his confidence back by getting more minutes every game. Very confident on the ball, Head-up always searching for the decisive pass. Smart enough that when he doesn't see the pass, he has his next play picked out and will make a safe, pass back/sideways. I liked when Xavi called him to give him more instruction at 72min. It shows Xavi believes in him.

Edit: lol @ JamSnitch and ColCata:lol:

JamSnitch says relax.

No doubt Georgie Cuddles thinks Puig played a decent game...

Imagine thinking he 'looked for decisive pass'.

The deluded still think he can open defence it seems.

In fact he did the exact opposite and pretty much always passed it quickly to first man open and failed to make the decisive passes.

Can go and stare at your fav picture of Xavi cuddling Puig as a child and smile Georgie.

That truly is Puig on the way to being world class as you predicted Georgie.

Xavi trusts him so much it only takes three injuries to CMs for him to come on.. and not in any previous two when looking for a go

I don't have any major complaints about his performance. He came on unexpectedly in a difficult moment where we were playing poor and having to substitute our only midfielder who was having a decent game.

Got better once Dembele and Frenkie entered, which is also ironically when Betis scored.

60mins was more than we expected for this game for Puig. I guess if Gavi rests the next game, Puig might get the chance for some minutes against Bayern too... I think they suit him very well, and I think he is what Barcelona need against them. If Xavi puts trust on Puig for this game, my confidence in Xavi grows by a lot, not because I like Puig obviously, but because it shows Xavi has some balls and so on.

It wasn't a spectacular game from Puig today, not close to one of his best, but he played well and he played with more confidence and better patience than under Koeman. He played two obvious passes towards the right that was read by the opponent, otherwise he was close to flawless, coming on unexpectedly but playing as if he was a regular. I am so impressed by the effortlessness by which he plays, when he plays so sporadically. There were some sequences where I felt like Ray Hudson today while watching him, it's mostly Busquets in the current squad that can do that for me otherwise.

Confidence is key like with any player. As Riqui gets more confidence, his form will rise as well. He will be a part of our future for sure.
