The calamity brazilian 'll never be our first choice, I'll guarantee you that. If Pep rated him so much, Abi wouldn't 've been rushed back from injury for the Inter game. If there is even the slighest chance for Abi to play, he'll almost always start ahead of the C.brazilian.(except injuries, rested or CDR)
we'll be in the market for a first choice LB if the frenchie left us. The C.b 'll always be a bench warmer at our club. He is defensively awful and average going forward. Basically, he's neither as good as Alves in attack or solid like Abi in defense...Not quality to be our first choice. Doesn't offer much pace or strength on the ball, weak in the air and at defending setpieces, gets way too easily done for pace & his positioning is a suspect most of the times. The only thing he is a tad bit better than Abi is his interplay with his winger & crossing but the latter has shown improvement in that area this season. He is much better than the brazilian in everything else.
I hope Abi is back soon cause he offers a lot more solidity and balance to our backline which the C.B has so far failed to do so...one of the reasons our defense has looked a bit shaky recently apart from the mismatch CB pairing.

But tbh I was very sceptical when we bought him and I was not pleased with his first couple of performences. The thing is, I'm always stressed out he's going to make some simple mistake that's going to cost us 2 or 3 points. I guess he's been lucky.

yep and i'm Scarlett Johansson

We really have to hook up than

Lucky in 4-6 games? ;)

Once again Maxi was very spportive in our attacks and didn't make mistakes in defending

I think he is afraid of going forward too far. If he doesn't get the ball immediately when he makes the run, he sprints right back. And then of course the pass comes and we lose possession. Happened 3 of 4 times today alone.

This is Barceloan's play, Maxwell, you need to stay up front when in comfortable possession ....

I don't mind him being precautionary at all. especially with Dani all the way up on the next side of the pitch.

Me neither, but there is a difference between being precautionary and running back when you have the space to land Air Force 1 to wait for a pass.

Other than that: he's doing alright filling in Abidal's injury.

I'm afraid his usually awful positioning will hurt us wednesday. He's only strong in the offensive part of the game, so I hope Abidal's back soon.

Maxwell has overall been doing a very good job. You act like Abidal stayed up a lot?! He BARELY went forward in the first place, the only difference is with Yaya back he's been a part of the flat line 3 with our 2 CB while with Abidal and its just sitting back with the 2 CB and Alves having complete freedom to stay up. What Maxwell does well is creating space and being open for passes when he goes up. Also when he loves the ball he always hussles back and usually wins it back by either disposessing or placing himself in passing lanes. I dont get him 1 vs 1 lately, in the begining of the season defending 1 vs 1 was one of his strong points but lately he's been getting beat a bit. That and he's been kinda week on corners, he needs to get some air and hold his ground.

The 1 vs 1 issue is what i'm particularly worried about. luckily for us, Arsenal don't have tricky wingers who can dribble and turn you one way and the other. what they do posses are players with speed like eboue and walcott who can easily expose maxwell's lack of pace. but all in all i think he'll do well :p

Maxwell is actually pretty fast; pace isn't his problem. Bad positioning and getting caught flatfooted is.

What are we going to do with Walcott? Max again or you'd risk with King Eric, who lacks match practice?

He linked up with Messi at times in a way that reminded me of how Sylvinho used to link up with Ronaldinho.
