I know it well. I followed Mathieu's career as I am french, and I followed Roma last season so I can at least make some comparisons. And even without that, stats wise, benatia is a beast.

edit: and I am not a mathieu hater. I defended him here and defended that transfer. But Benatia is better if people want to compare.

That doesn't even matter. Signing Mathieu wasn't the problem, vermaelen was. If zubinepto got Mathieu + Benatia, he would had done his job well. But it's zubinepto, so he got vermaelen.

Yup. But don't blame me, I wasn't the one who started this comparison.

I fully agree with you that they should have gone for Mathieu+Benatia, but even here Benatia was not well recieved. Dig a bit in this thread. Many people believed that bullshit nonsense about him not being fit for barca playstyle.

Benatia is XI material, so signing him after Mathieu would've meant benching Pique; something that he deserves, btw, but is unrealistic.

Now, if we're talking about "fit", let's put it this way: Benatia is a better CB than Mathieu, but had we signed him instead of Mathieu he probably wouldn't have performed any better than him. That's why we went after Marcos, when for the same price we could've been able to pay Laporte's release clause which IMO would've been a better signing for us than either Benatia or V.

I thought you didn't want Benatia earlier because he was 'slow'? What is Laporte? A speedster?

DonAK didnt say he was slow. He was just pointing what Mythical said before.

Of course he isn't slow. As I said, to anyone who watched him last season, he is a very complete defender. And he's still 27.

Judging from the video, he's got Barca DNA. Good with the ball, can run forward, good tackler and positional placement is good. A bit similar to Puyol minus the leadership and La Masia... but that's only according to a youtube video... need to watch more Bayern games and then judge tho.

Doglass has loser DNA. Vermaelen doesn't have DNA. He doesn't exist.

Nobody said they do have Barca DNA and because they don't, it's hard to find a cule that is content with the signings.
