Miralem Pjanic

All I'm saying is Pjanic is arriving as a stop gap, a meh one. The club is neglecting the need of a midfielder and with this trade they can go all in on a striker nobody wants.

With FFP cleared we can go balls out for Lautaro or Neymar, only to find ourselves in the same situation next year, which hopefully is when we stop with these 'sexy' names.

They have the same role of being a midfielder waiting to be replaced, difference is Arthur can always be sold later, Pjanic cannot. With Busi, Rakitic, Vidal and Pjanic we basically have 0 direct income for the new replacement(s).

It was not about FFP and Barca are not getting cash to go after Neymar or Lautaro who would be on next seasons accounts anyway.

Barca need new things in midfield with or without Arthur.

Now that this is more or less done, Barca should make an effort at getting rid of the likes of Rakitic, Coutinho and Vidal now. Would preferably add a younger midfielder in their place.

Arthur would've never been replaced with Pjanic had it not been for this financially sound deal. Sporting wise there are many better players to replace Arthur than Pjanic.

Maybe not due to their age but Barca would have thought about selling him for any half decent offer.

Arthur is slow, injury prone, cant last 90 mins, doesnt behave well.

Maybe move to Juve will get him going but Arthur was just another player that although younger brought all the things the older players do and arguably worse as not fit enough.

Pjanic has about 4/12 years on likes of Modric and couple good seasons where offers what Arthur couldnt and sell on for 20m odd at 32 would be decent.

Still need to revamp midfield and get rid of old players.

Sounds like a dumb move, why trade a decent 23 year midfielder, with room for improvement, for a 30 year old midfielder who may only have 3 years left at the top level?

I'm not against selling Arthur. But we should always aim at bringing players who A) are the best or B) can become the best. Pjanic is neither. Arthur was B) when we bought him and can now be sold for a profit.

Doubt we'll be able to sell Pjanic for anything. I'd say he's worth about 20-30M right now.

Agree on the revamp. This is a step in the wrong direction.

So the revamp starts with letting a young player go and bringing in another 30 year old?

One year ago Arthur played in the Copa America where he started and played 90 minutes in every match...

That young player was slow, couldnt last 90 mins and injury prone.

Good for him lasting 90 mins in Copa. Shame couldnt keep up at Barca and that was in a midfield of old players.

Arthur was part of the problem with midfield which still needs sorted.

Time will tell.

If Pjanic comes in and looks a step up from Arthur can sell him in couple of seasons.

Arthur on his own is not a loss and I dont think this moves weakens the squad but still need to make other moves that would have been needed with Arthur.
