Loan is a very good option. Hakimi developed nicely for Dortmund for example. I watched him a few games for Madrid and he was nice, but nowhere near Madrid level. Now he is Madrid level, because Dortmund developed him further.

Yes, which is what Barca will do with someone like Pedri I assume, possibly to Real Sociedad to replace ?degaard if he re-joins Madrid.

Loaned out Alena to Betis.

Hakimi they rated.

Real are quick enough to cut ties with players that dont turn out how they wanted whether that be a loan or sale.

I have to say I'm jealous a bit on Madrid because they very rarely cut ties with talented players completely very early.

Well, yes. We do a lot of investment, which is a lot of punts, but a vast majority of the players we buy aren't huge gambles and they do go on to have very respectable careers even if they don't make it in Madrid.

- Gago (20) for 18, left in 2012 (26) for ~3
- Higuain (19) for 10.8, left in 2013 (26) for ~35
- Marcelo (18) for 5.8
- Drenthe (20) for 12.6, left in 2012 (25) for free
- Garay (21) for 9, left in 2011 (25) for 5, as part of settlement for Coentrao and 50% clause of future transfer fee
- Benzema (21) for 31.5
- Granero (22) bought back from Getafe after a series of Castilla loans for 3.6, left in 2012 (25) for 7.2
- Di Maria (22) for 29.7, left in 2014 (26) for 67.5
- Ozil (21) for 16.2, left in 2013 (25) for 42.3
- Canales (19) for 5.4, left in 2012 (21) for 6.8 with buyback retained
- Sahin (22) for 9, left in 2014 (26) for 6.3
- Varane (18) for 9
- Isco (21) for 28.8
- Carvajal (21) bought back from Leverkusen for 5.9
- Casemiro (21) for 5.4
- Lucas Silva (21) for 11.7, left for free
- Kovacic (21) for 34.2, left in 2019 (25) for 40.5
- Vallejo (18) for 4.5
- Asensio (19) for 3.2
- Odegaard (18) for 2.5 (+boatloads to his dad)
*** Neymar transfer & market value inflation ***
- Theo (19) for 21.6, left in 2019 (22) for 18
- Ceballos (20) 14.9
- Vinicius (18) for 40.5
- Odriozola (22) for 27
- Brahim (19) for 15.3
- Lunin (19) for 7.7
- Jović (21) for 54
- Militao (21) for 45
- Rodrygo (18) for 40.1
- Reinier (18) for 27
- Alberto Soro now at Mallorca (20) for 2.3

Also caveats for players like James, Morata, Coentrao, Sneijder, Illarramendi, Pedro Leon and others who were 23 at the time of transfer

I'm not sure how Barca's recruitment stacks up in comparison, I imagine similar.
Considering several of the names above were also loaned out for some duration of their contract, we've cut ties with players U23 only twice, or three times if you include Silva who's just been an out-of-character panic buy and barely played for us.
But still they all were a pretty decent investment considering their potential at the time. TBH even Theo who was seen as a raw scrub at RM and suffered from being expected to do at least a respectable job in absence of Marcelo, is now one of Milan's best players.

Main takeaway point = scout, buy and make decisions like Jose Angel Sanchez and you'll be fine. Selling before they're 23 is also not really an admission of failure/defeat.

Actually here is Barcelona recruitment. No point going back to 2006 since you bought almost nobody young back then getting talent from La Masia, so going from 2008:

- Henrique (22) for 7.2, left on a free in 2012
- Chygrynskyi (22) for 22.5, sold a year later for 13.5
- Keirrison (20) for 12.6, left in 2014 (26) on a free
- Alexis (22) for 23.4, left in 2015 (25) for 38.3
- Neymar (21) for 79.4, left in 2017 (25) for 222
- Bojan (22) bought back from Roma for 11.7, sold to Stoke for 1.6 a year later
- MAtS (22) for 10.8
- Halilović (18) for 4.5, sold in 2016 (20) for 4.5 (w/buyback?)
- Gomes (22) for 33.3, sold in 2018 (25) for 22.5
- Umtiti (22) for 22.5
- Digne (22) for 14.9, sold in 2018 (25) for 18.2
- Denis (22) sold for 3.6, bought back from Villarreal for 2.9, sold on to Celta in 2019 (25) for 11.6
- Dembele (20) for 112.5
- Marlon (21) for 4.5, sold a year later (22) for 5.4
- Malcom (21) for 36.9, sold a year later (22) for 36
- Arthur (21) for 27.9
- Todibo (19) for 900k
- Emerson (20) for 10.8
- Firpo (22) for 16.2
- FDJ (22) for 67.5
- Trincao (20) for 27.9
- Matheus Fernandes (22) for 6.3
- Pedri (17) for 4.5

There's also dudes like Paco, Lenglet or Mina who were 23 etc and may be some were listed as Barca B transfers that I've missed or forgot.

As you can see, it's not as if Barca are actually "giving up" on players early at all most times. Or at least they don't do so for the talented ones. The effect is more such that the quality of people brought in or produced from La Masia isn't really cutting it - potential/ability judgement sucks, hence more loans and rather unfavorable deals in many cases.

First time watching Juventus and that Cristiano Rinaldo chap upfront looked quite decent.

Strong on the ball, knows how to score and perfect age to give us a few quality years.

Maybe we should try and get him in the Arthur deal instead. Wages don't seem to be an issue either and he pays he taxes.

 guys don't believe the trolls

i watched the game yesterday. this guy is rakitic regen or even worse. sideways passing maestro. he slowed down so many plays with his constant sideways passing and passes back to the CB.

he didn't run much either. rabiot got mad at him at one point because he was standing still and not making any runs. also when he was tracking back it reminded me of our dinosaur midfielders who can never catch the opponent

this 7 key passes is a bs metric and the only reason it's at 7 is because he kept making diagonal balls to fullbacks/wingers who would then do something with the ball.

in other words, he was trash
