This wouldn't work in 2021.

Ask Pep and Spanish NT.

Pep tried 9 times after Barca.
Spain tried 4 times after Xavi-Iniesta.

0/13 wins.
1/13 finals.

Amazing stats.

sure it works when you have the personnel. what kind of stupid logic is that?

Please, show me a video of any team post Barca playing remotely as good as this and we talk.

If Pep and Spain is considered the same style, then both showed just this year that it still works.
City won the toughest league without contest and fell in the CL-final, Spain were superior to the winners Italy in the semi final.

If it is fair to take these two teams and put them against all other teams, then that in it self tells you a lot.

So, it works when:
1. You have the best coach
2. Prime GOAT to save your ass
3. Once in a century generation of midfielders
4. Xavi, the brain, Mr. TikiTaka himself
5. When the element of surprise was still there since the opponents were kinda shocked with that style
6. In Europe, EPL wasn't as rich as today, Bayern was at the lowest point since 2000' and Italy just went through a Calciopolli cheating scandal and bankruptcy

I agree, in that moment it worked perfectly.
How on Earth will it work today, without Xavi and Messi, and with budget Uefa cup level of players like Pedri, Puig, Dest, Eric and similar?

I have no idea why are we even discussing this, the most pointless debate ever.
Replicating 2010 where literally ZERO ingredients from 2010 exist today.

I don't think the debate is about replicating. It's impossible.
The debate is if THAT team would work. And most probably it would smash everyone today. Except if you feel the level is elevated nowadays.

Every top European team has strengthened TREMENDOUSLY this summer. We have been hit hard.

We are now a second tier team.

We are currently behind.
Man City
Chelsea
Man UTD
Liverpool
PSG
Bayern
Atletico
Real

We are about the same tier as:
Juve
Inter
Dortmund
Totenham
...

Long way to go

Tottenham with Harry Kane is probably better.
Dortmund with H?land is probably better aswell.
Inter will probably invest the money they got from Lukaku in some good players.

We might even be Arsenal tier.
There is also Liecester.

Koeman: "You have to be realistic. Economically the club cannot compete with other teams like City, PSG or United. You have to accept it and work to change things. It will last for a long time.

Koeman: "Right now we can't fight the best teams in the world"

We are doomed.
