A reminder: 40M€ seems to be acceptable to most in here, but it would still be the biggest fee ever paid for a fullback. More than overrated Luke Shaw, more than best rightback ever Dani Alves etc..

We should be able to get him for 30M, it is Benfica ffs. The player surely would want to come here over other clubs, because he would be guaranteed a starting spot!

40m on it's own is a reasonable price. If we manage to win basically the treble (Since the copa comes along with it whenever we're truly that dominant) he'd be more than worth that extra 15m. That's in the incredibly off chance we manage to even pull such a thing off. I can't think of many better ways to go bankrupt than to do it by winning too many trophies although thinking about it I'm not really sure how that's possible with reward money and sponsorships taken into account.

These incentives are almost always for the whole duration of the contract. That means he gets a 5 year contract and winning la liga and the CL dont mean winning the treble. It just means winning CL one year and La Liga another year in the next 5 years. While Nelsinho might have been one of the worst players in the starting eleven or even dropped from the starting eleven in some games and not been decisive in our wins. Still we are stuck with paying such incentives. Reward money is low. Marketing is where the money is. RM have always been the richest club for the past decade even when they didnt win hardly anything.

The idea in paying out for those trophies won is that the original fee is lower and certain fee only achieved if club successful with the player. It can make sense to do it that way.

Real Madrid have the advantage of marketing due to their history and winning trophies creates that history for Barca so it is all tied in.

I agree. 30-35m is a fair price for him. Anything else is just silly and we should move on. He shouldnt be the most expensive full back in the world by far. Thats just ridiculous.

Bellerin is out of the question with the money Arsenal want. Then what are the alternatives if we don't pay for Semedo?

Honest question. Do we have a "plan C" or D or E or whatever?

World record fee is irrelevant. Can only judge it on the current market.

Actually Benfica and Porto are notorious for selling players at high prices.

But fullbacks are cheaper. Cancelo went for 15M - a comparable case.

Of course it is relevant? It says something about how much other clubs have paid, and if it is a reasonable price.
Maybe Kyle Walker breaks it, but he is a very good PL-hyped player shifting between two rivals. Are we going to pay nearly that, for a young Portuguese fullback from a club that produced Coentrao? No, it is too much, and we should insist on a lower price. For f****** once we have all the trumps: guaranteed playing-time, that is very rare.

Yes, Bellerin is definitely out and so should Nelsinho be with the prices talked about here. Ricardo Pereira and Fabinho should be pursued IMO.

Are there any news even linking us to them? Haven't heard squat other than Bellerin, Semedo and way back, Cancelo.

Btw Fabinho would cost about 45 million from what I've seen so not sure he'd be cheaper.

True. Why would you even compare it with a fee paid a decade ago? Alves would cost 80m. these days. If not more.

Exactly. If there was a prime Alves or prime Marcelo on market these days teams would probably be going up to 70-80m to get them.

If Barca were to pay 35-40m for Semedo that fee stands on its own. If some other full back goes for 50m the week before it makes no difference if world record fee or not.
