His positioning is all over the place, gets sucked in too close to Pique all the time. And the less said about his offensive play the better. That Messi literally has to tell him where to move is enough.

What? That's textbook stuff for a player with insane speed that doesn't need to stay very close to the other team's winger when the ball is in the opposite flank. Pique was such a mess that he ended up doing CB work the first half for almost the full time. And did it pretty good.

Roberto was bad in defense when he came in. Lost his man plenty of times and that header at the end was a big blunder that could've cost us a pen. Semedo is quicker stronger and better in defense, that's pretty obvious.

His link-up play is AWOL at the moment, but that's another discussion.

He has all the tools to be a beast both offensively and defensively but his IQ is not that great tbh. I mean Alba is no physical or technical beast but he knows when to cut in, when to make a run or when to pass. Semedo is still confused out there.

His offensive positioning is just all over the place. Noticed Messi on a few occasions telling him where to stand/run

IMO, messi telling him is a good thing. Once he understands other players' movements he will definitely build a better understanding. You should at least give him some time. Although he isn't that great offensively, he isn't a terrible RB. We've had worse, and even market has worse. Its just that dani alves has raised the bar too high. Give him some time and then give your opinion.

Did nothing wrong. Should have stayed on and Roberto should have came on for Paulinho in the midfield.

He came off because he was doing next to nothing in the build up play or looking to get into the final third.

Clear as day why Valverde took him off and although Roberto was nothing special he understood the position more and was better in posession.

He had a very tough job defensively today. There were 2 or more occasions (the Alaves goal was one) he was the only player that could track back, because both Umtiti and Pique were bombing forward. He saved some of those, but when they scored, he couldn't do anything.

Still, I think that his offensive play suffers mainly because the lack of confidence, combined with Pique's undisciplined positioning and his own lack of understanding of the movement in the final third.

He makes many runs forward and is available most of the time for his teammates who don't give him the ball.
Ofcours Roberto is better in possession because he is a midfielder but also he can't defend.

He doesnt run forward enough or in right areas. Looks confused where to go half the time.

Messi today was standing with ball telling him he had to make a run and where.

Roberto is the far better full back just now and the difference defensively is not as much as people try to make out.
