I remember in the begining of the last year him having really really good performances , thinking we had foung an Alves successor only for him to be dropped for no reason. I remember him playing really good vs Juventus and Atletico ,and pretty much in every game in the begining of the season. I thought that he wasn't played that much because of that clause benfica had on him , and so we wouldn't pay them extra money but this one is on Valverde. I see Semedo having a really high ceeling but he won't reach it here cause we have Roberto in front of him ( who is a bad rb ) , and Valverde not having balls to bench a Masia boy.

Valverde doesn't give a rat's ass about La Masia or who came from it. Rakitic and Suarez must be from La Masia too going on that logic while guys like Alena are new signings who can't get past them.

We are probably the most attacking team in the world.

Remember that we don't want to buy a goalkeeper unless he has awesome technique, first touch and passes.

In majority of La liga matches, Barca attacks for 70% of matches.
So, roughly, attacking/build up skills are more important for our fullbacks than defending.
That doesn't mean that he don't need to defend at all.
But roughly:
Good attacker, average defender > good defender, average attacker

Or in the case of Roberto and Semedo:
Average defender, average attacker > good defender, poor attacker

How about Abidal? Abidal was not a great attacker! But he was the one who is balancing our defense when Alves was primarily attacking. Abidal was one of our star players and you guys know how many assists he had in his first 2 seasons here at Barca? A grand total of 0! That's right - ZERO!!

Might have to do with the profile of the opposition. Think Valverde trusts Roberto more against teams that sit deep and Semedo for teams that can be hurt on the break.

I could have sworn prior to coming here Semedo was hyped up as some sort of attacking force who'd finally be able to replace Alves down that right flank. Now suddenly he's supposed to be our second coming of Abidal.

His attacking contribution needs to improve and it needs to improve drastically. There's no getting around that. And this is coming from someone who actually does like him, at least more than most overhyped nobodies that come through here anyways.

He was taking off down the line multiple times during preseason when he played and engaged in multiple good attacks. He showed significant improvement during those games and that was after not playing with Portugal in the summer and being benched most of last season. He looked really good, and was also solid defensively. He deserves game time. He can get better. We know Roberto wont.
