He was really poor yesterday. Completely different player than the one who started off in sensational form in his first games in Blaugrana.

Low confidence, dispossessed easily, no attacking creativity, cinder blocks for feet. He is not making the most of his opportunity to shine.

Quite odd this player.

Occasionally he's brilliant like Alves was. Like that play when he dribbled 3-4 Bilbao players in short spaces. I mean, who does that at fullback these days other than Marcelo? But other times his confidence just fades away.

Imo, his mentality is not up there. Maybe he's not been integrated in the team the right way. Who knows. I wouldn't give up on him though.

As for this game, I was overall okay with it. Don't see the big fuss. Yea, he had 2-3 passes which could've been turnovers, but he pulled them off in the end even if not struck the right way. He was beaten by Kane, but Kane wasn't his man this game. It was more a play in which this player appeared in his zone, he had to cover in a short amount of time and was in a spot where he had to commit. Kane is world class and won that duel. But it's not actually a big mistake. Every time attacking players win some duels with defenders. Kane had won a very good position there because other players made mistakes too.

Son, who was his man was nullified by Semedo. Didn't do anything of note, and couldn't use his speed to get past players.

Problem with Semedo is that I'm still waiting for him to let loose and show the brilliant stuff he shows in glimpses, but it doesn't happen. Maybe he's one of those mentally frail players who have the tools as in the talent, and skill, but not the brain for the highest level. It kind of is known to affect portuguese players. Looks like the Quaresma of RBs Semedo at times. He pulls off some quite impressive bits of imaginative skills, but the consistency and mentality isn't there on a constant basis.

Semedo play with his head down most of the time, this is a huge flaw for a footballer on both ends.
Against Bilbao, he was caught out of position many times but we weren't beaten by it so people didn't care, last night he didn't have awareness of who is where in this Lucas play and even with Kane he wasn't aware of what is best solution
This is the same problem -on a bigger scale- in his attack as he again lacks awareness of where is his teammates because he looks to the ball or nearby, again due to head down.
This is something that players need to learn at very very young age
A player I remember who was a severe case of it was El Hadji Diouf, once looked ready for stardom with his raw talent but when played in higher level he was exposed big time because of it.
IMHO this will be the biggest challenge for him, will be the difference for his career, if he learns to put head up and see the pitch and where is he and his teammates and opponents I've no doubts he can improve drastically, but I won't bet on it

I think it would be better to look for a new RB at the end of the season if he doesn't have some kind of a resurgence. I'm not convinced by Roberto at all and I hoped Semedo would solidify himself as a starter, but he's unreliable right now.

We also need to lower our expectations. We won't be getting a new Dani Alves and whichever RB we'll sign will most likely have deficiencies in his defensive game, but that can be improved. We need someone that is influential in attack and got great pace to recover defensively. Even this will be hard to find.

Yep. Could very well be. Roberto is not an option either though. So if Semedo doesn't somehow improve his decision making we need to sign a very good RB.

Ligue 1 is a great market. Internally, La Liga is also one.

I see no La Liga RB that fits that criteria, but then again I'm no scout. Although I'll say that Girona RB Pedro Porro is a very interesting player with a very low buyout clause. Could be the revelation of this season. Started very strongly.

It's a pity he didn't play vs Barca because I was looking forward to see how he'd do.

He has to put up his head more thats true. But i dont really get this "caught out of position". Vs Bilbao i dont really know what u mean and cant remenber that it happen often?!
Vs Tottenham it was a different story. He got problems in the 2nd half when order in our defense row was completely off.
Several times pique had no one and semedo moves to center and the right side was open. I dont get why that happens so often. Saw this in other games and mainly under pressure.
But i also thinks he seems to be getting shaky when pressure is on him. Maybe thought processes are too slow :)
Well, in the end he has to take his chance now. If not in the 2nd season i dont think it will happen at all.

With a release clause off 5mil he's indeed a interesting player to follow. Had the same feeling when I realized that he was on the bench that game.

Why should we look for another right back?

Why don't we just give Wague a chance? Semedo has so much talent. The man could be a beast.

I blame Valverde for fucking up his confidence.

Yeah I'm also curious how Wague turns out at Barça b when finally his papers are fixed.

I counted 3 times in the Bilbao game when Semedo had no clue where he should be and ball was played behind him, it didn't result in anything at the end. This si a bit of a trend for him especially when we are attacking, he can use his speed to cover it at times but it doesn't always work.
for me it is clear that even in defense he lacks awareness needed

If a player get his confidence ruined after playing all this minutes, then he doesn't have the mentality to succeed in Barca in 1st place and it is on him not the coach.
Wague will get his chance with B team when he is healthy, we won't sign a RB in winter anyway, but we should be prepared for another disappointment and follow other RBs.
We can't wait any longer with Roberto/Semedo with their current level
