So basically Benefica are saying that he isn't officially a Barca player until he passes the medical?

Pretty sure our announcement mentioned that yesterday.

Nah, probably just some paperwork on our side they're not happy with.

Transfers are usually not finalized until player make his medical. Same thing happened with Gomes when Valencia waited to officialy confirm the transfer for almost a week.

Semedo wouldn't be here doing his medical if importang things were not agreed on.

I just agreed with you in my prior post.

Since the club thinks RB is the most important position to reenforce, we should just through a extra 15-20 million and get any one of Monaco's RB.

Personally I think Vidal and Palencia would be enough for 1 more year, but I'm not the one running the club, I'm right but not the man in charge

Unless something goes terrible with the medical that Semedo is undergoing right now, he will more than likely be a Barca player by the end of the day.

Our previous Portuguese players:

Luis Figo: 1995-2000. 249 appearances and 45 goals in official matches. He won six titles. But despite being the team captain, he went to Real Madrid.
Vítor Baía: 1996-1999. 55 appearances. He won six titles. After coming to Barça from Porto for the 1996/97 season, he went back to Porto in 1999/2000.
Fernando Couto: 1996-1998. 63 appearances and two goals in official matches. He won six titles. After coming from Parma, he left Barça to go to Lazio.
Simao Sabrosa: 1999-2001. 71 appearances and four goals in official matches. He won one title. He came to Barça from Sporting, then left to sign with Benfica.
Ricardo Quaresma: 2003-04. 30 appearances and two goals in official matches. He won a title. He also came to Barça from Sporting, then left to sign with Porto.
Deco: 2004-2008. 164 appearances and 23 goals in official matches. He won seven titles. He came to Barça from Porto, and then left to sign with Chelsea.
Andre Gomes: 2016-
Nelson Semedo:

Till now: Figo was a success, but he turned into a traitor in the end.
Quaresma, Simao, Baia were failures.
Fernando Couto was average and Van Gaal forced him out.
Deco is Brasilian with a Portuguese passport.
Andre Gomes is, well, Andre Gomes.

Till now, without Deco, our success with Portuguese players is 1 out 6 (Figo).
Let's hope that Semedo will break the spell.
Portuguese at Barca spell is almost as equally as horrible as Barca&Arsenal and Barca&Valencia spell.

far too less sample size to get to that conclusion. But if you compare it with total non-portuguese player transfer and their success rate. Or break it for each nationality , we might get some insight.

Yes, look at all of our transfers and judge accordingly. Then we'll find out that there are lots of flops regardless of nationality. If one nationality has a higher flop rate, then its just coincidences.

Which is why Benfica haven't announced it yet.

Stock market there closes 5pm.

So I assume they will announce it very soon. Just need to get every detail in place and Semedo to sign the contract.

I think it's a bit of a simplistic way to look at it.

Our recent French players include Blanc, Dugarry, Dehu, Petit, Christanval, Giuly, Thuram, Henry, Abidal, Mathieu and now Umtiti and Digne.

A fair share of players there who didn't have what you can call a successful career or spell at Barca from a personal perspective.

Deco was more or less Portuguese too having played basically his entire career there at Benfica and Porto before joining Barca.

Let's see what happens. Portugal have some interesting talent coming through lately. Their recent flops have been Brazilians or players from other countries.

Still very strange that they give an official announcement that he's not a Barcelona player yet. If the deal is going to get done then why make this announcement? They can just stay quiet.
